Favorite "Required Reading"

Featured Replies

What was your favorite "required reading" in school/college? Mine was almost anything by Edgar Allan Poe.

To Kill a Mockingbird

The Great Gatsby

To Kill a Mockingbird

Read that for the first time in eighth grade and I've read it probably 4 or 5 time since. Definitely the top of my list for all-time required reading. Also:

"The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien - for a Lit. class in college

"Poems and Tales of Edgar Allan Poe" - soph. year of high school

"In Our Time" by Ernest Hemingway - Lit. class in college

You can throw "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and "The Great Gatsby" on there as well, but they didn't have nearly as much re-read value as the other four.

I would also have to say Catcher in the Rye. JD

I really liked Catcher in the Rye.....

Also, way back when, I had to read The Outsiders. That was a good book!

Amazingly, I was able to get by without ever reading a book from cover to cover in school. I never did enjoy reading books, and I still don't.

The Great Gatsby

I also like The Giver, and The Kite Runner.

Another of my favorites. :thumb:

I like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn but they were not required for me.

Even though I didn't like to read anything in High School, I would have to go with The Great Gatsby.

To Kill A Mockingbird has become my favorite book. Loved it in 8th grade, but appreciated it much more reading it again in college.

Also a big fan of The Great Gatsby and Slaughterhouse Five, both read in high school.

1984.

Also, Brave New World
