November 8, 200718 yr Hangman's post in the "Should Billy Gillespie be Fired?" (My eyes aren't what they used to be.") thread reminded me. I will be having Lasik surgery sometime in the near future. Have you ever had it done? Do you know of someone who has had it done? Did it hurt? Do you see 20/20 right after surgery? How long does the surgery take?
November 8, 200718 yr My mom's husband had it done a while back. Not sure on the specifics, but he said it was painless, very quick, and after a day or so his vision improved a lot. I say after a day or so because he had to keep something on his eyes when he slept. But it seemed to turn out great for him, had a few check ups since and everything seems fine still.
November 8, 200718 yr 1. I had it done in the summer of 2001. 2. My father and sister have both had it. 3. It didn't hurt one bit. 4. I saw 20/20 immediately, but I had to wear plastic covers with air holes over my eyes for the rest of the night. It was for the most part an effort to keep people from rubbing their eyes. 5. My mom and dad took me and watched the surgery. The time I walked into the operating room, had the procedure, took an eye test and left the operating room took SEVEN minutes. BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT!
November 8, 200718 yr I cannot wait to have lasik surgery. Contacts are starting to hurt my eyes and glasses just make my eyes worse. I can't catch a break.
November 8, 200718 yr Author I cannot wait to have lasik surgery. Contacts are starting to hurt my eyes and glasses just make my eyes worse. I can't catch a break. I hate contacts! If I didn't have the worst allergies in the U.S. they may not be so bad but since I do I can't stand them. I've had them for about 7 years (contacts). It's hard for me to take them out because when I do my eyes itch like CRAZY. I can take them out right before I go to sleep but then I can't sleep because my flipping eyes are itching to bad. Because of them itching so bad I go for some time without taking them out & I know (because my eye doctor has gotten onto me for it) that by not taking them out it destroys your eyes. So I hope I don't get turned down on having the surgery for having such terrible eyes. I know one thing, the surgery can't hurt my eyes worse than what they already are unless it makes me go completely blind. Thanks for the Info. guys.
November 8, 200718 yr I've been thinking about having this done as well lately. What kind of price range are we looking at?
November 8, 200718 yr My wife had it done and then her two sister's had it done. I took my wife the the Eye place in Kenwood (Cincinnati) and it took about 10 minute's from the time we walked in and left. I watched the procedure and it was really something. I brought my wife home and she had to wear patches for about 5 hour's and then sun glasses the rest of the day. She went from really bad to 20/20 the very next morning and she has been happay ever since. Both her sister's are happy. I want it done however, I am kind of chicken after watching her surgery. In some instances insurance will cover some of the expense and it is alot cheaper today than 5 years ago. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you. JD
November 8, 200718 yr I had it done in October 2006 and it has been one of the greatest things I could have done. I wish I had done it much earlier back when I was playing softball, basketball, etc. I had mine at LasikPlus in Kenwood. Dr. Marino and the staff are excellent. It didnt hurt and when I sat up on the op. table I could see the clock across the room.
November 8, 200718 yr I had it done this past summer and it has turned out to be one of the best decisions in my life. I had mine done at Commonwealth Eye Surgery in Lexington, and they did a fabulous job. The surgery itself did not hurt, though it was an akward experience. You will feel pressure from time to time as they create the vacuum seal on your eye so that they can cut the flap to get to where the laser will reshape what it needs to. After that I didn't feel anything, just some odd noises and smells (burnt corneal tissue) but nothing that hurt by any means. The entire procedure took maybe 10 minutes, and when I stood up off the table my vision was 20/20 or better though very cloudy because of the procedure. I went back in the day after the procedure and my vision was 20/15 and that is where it has remained now 3 - 4 months after. The freedom from contacts and glasses is absolutely great, I would reccomend the procedure to anyone.
November 8, 200718 yr I had it done twenty years ago by Dr. David Schnieder. It was the best money I ever spent, it cost 850 an eye and they would only do one eye at a time. That night after surgery it felt like I had sand in my eye so it was very uncomfortable. Do they do both eyes now at the same time, whats the cost, and at what age do they recommend before doing this?
November 8, 200718 yr I had mine done in the summer of 04 in Kenwood. Three days before a vacation to Cancun. The surgery was quick, about 20 min. in and out. They gave me cheap pair of goggles to wear to keep from scratching. You have to keep putting drops in for about a week after to keep your eyes from drying out. The day after the surgery, I was 20/10. I have since stayed at 20/15. Great investment! I can have any type of sunglasses I want. Never have to go back to the optometrist.

I cannot use any Renu products as my eyes burn and itch real bad.

As for age, my eye doctor was more concerned over the changing of my eyes than age. She wanted to wait until I had a 3 year period of my eyes not getting worse, which I'm well beyond that, and still debating the surgery.
