I'm really thinking of doing this in the spring when I get my tuition reimbursment back from work that way I can pay for it all up front.

 

Does anyone know if there is any particular time of year that it's easier on your eyes?

I had it done in 2000, and it has been wonderful for me. Far and away the best $3,200 I've ever spent. Last time I was examined, I was 20/20 in one eye, and 20/15 in the other. It was great for me just being able to see the alarm clock in the morning. I do have to use glasses for reading now, I guess that's going to come with age.

 

I do have a couple of friends that have had bad experiences with the procedure. Both of them relate to having one eye done for seeing far away, and the other for up close.

Had Lasik in 2001. 20/15 vision the next day. Recently, I went back to the doctor because I was having a hard time seeing far away in the evenings (driving, watching tv, etc.). Now I have glasses for that. Doc believes that it's more of a focus issue though, namely because I work in a paperless environment with two large flat screen monitors. I'm staring at a computer ALL DAY. I don't regret having the surgery at all. It certainly improved my life and it was virtually pain free.

I'm loving all these feel good stories.

I was expecting pain with clear vision soon after. It was the opposite. I had no pain, but it took several days to get sharp vision. I thought I had made a bad mistake for a few scary days there... but my vision was so bad they had to do some extra cutting. I can see fine now. Aaaaaa, the joys of buying sunglasses off the rack in a store! My surgery was about 5 years ago.

Welp, I went up to LaGrange this morning to the Bluegrass Eye Center to see my cousin/M.D. who will be doing my surgery, B. Matthew Blair, & he said I was a good candidate for it. I'll be going to his office in Louisville in 2 weeks to prepare for the surgery that will be in January. I can not wait!

I agree completely. Totally life-altering, in a great way! One eye is 20/20 and the other is 20/15. I would do it over again without hesitation. This is from someone that had worn contacts from the age of 11. The best part for me was going to the pool or beach and being able to wear cute sunglasses, not dorky perscription ones (no offense to anyone who wears dorky perscription ones), and not being blind! Not only could I identify which child was mine, but I looked good doing it!:laugh: Good luck, Scarface, you'll be so glad you did it! I'm a giant chicken when it comes to anything involving eyes, but it was not bad at all.
