Well, why don't we just adopt a playoff system nation wide??? We'll go ahead and use Ohio's, because it is apparently perfect!!!!:mad:

 

The whole world (mostly Kentucky and some Ohio border citizens, apparently) is full of whiners, bellyachers and malcontents that can never be satisfied or see what is going on from a different perspective.

 

"We don't want these teams left out/in, there's too many, it messes with the status quo, the system dosen't work, we don't want to have to play a public/private schedule, those crappy little teams should be sent to the scrap heap, they are not, and will never be, worthy!" etc. et al.

 

We all want it to be right, but there is no right. Never going to make everyone happy. Some will never be happy unless the perenial powers that be are the only ones allowed in the playoffs. Maybe only district champs should be allowed in and we should go straight to regional games? Everyone else plays for fun!

 

I have an idea. If you don't like the system, don't go to the playoff games. Follow Ohio HS football and enjoy how they do it. Apparently, from the thread here, many want it set up to where only a select few teams would be allowed in, anyway.

 

The 0-10/1-9's are in just because of 4 team districts. Does the fact that Clinton County's kids get to play in ONE playoff game keep some of you up at night? Did they knock someone more deserving out? NO THEY DID NOT!!!!!

 

If we're comparing apples to oranges, should'nt the NCAA tourney teams, by this same thinking, be required to have a winning record, tourney champ or not, before they are allowed in?

 

Some teams hardly ever/never ever make the playoffs and don't have any idea what it is like. Maybe it is a "Participation Ribbon" and they should be shunned from the Caste that apparently is High School Football and be deemed untouchables???:irked: WHO are they hurting????

 

And, while we're cleaning house, let's definitely ditch the Sweet 16 basketball format, too. It's never going to be near as much fun as making all the teams play divisional ball like they do in Indianna! We should model all our sports systems on other states.

 

The system we have will weed out the weak teams, like it always has, and the cream will rise. Don't worry about those "untouchables". They won't be a threat to you!!!:thumb:

Do you really think a 0-10 team wants to get their brains beat in by a 10-0 team. I can't think of one positive from this matchup.

 

It's not the game as much as it is another week of practice. 6 extra days of practice per year, over 3 years. I know a lot of kids could get better with an extra 18 practices...

 

And again, what does that hurt? The 1 seed should win anyway...

In the old 4-class system HHS played a LOT of 1-9 and 0-10 teams in the first round of the playoffs. So, how far back are these 'past' teams? Also, is the basketball and baseball state tournament 'disgusting' because they let everyone in?

 

 

How many made it in the past compared to how many make it now. "A LOT" doesn't mean a whole lot without numbers.

 

And no, basketball and baseball are different. For just about every school success isn't measured by a playoff appearance for those sports. Success comes from how deep of a run they make. But before the new football format some schools aimed to make the playoffs, and viewed making it there as a successful season. Now that more and more teams are making it that don't deserve it, it tarnished past teams that had to work really hard just to make it there.

 

In other words you don't hear people talking about basketball or baseball and saying, "Thats a good team. They made the playoffs last year" They would say, "Thats a good team. They made it to the regional finals last year" or something like that. But for football at some schools people actually would say, "That was a good team. They made the playoff last year." But now that statement doesn't mean as much.

Does the KHSAA stipulate that teams can’t practice during the playoffs if that team didn’t make the playoffs? If not then those 0-10 and 1-9 teams that shouldn’t be in the playoffs to begin with could practice for a whole month after their season ends. I agree with NKU20, what benefit does another 45-0 loss do for your team?

Thats crazy, If your going to let 0-10 teams in. You might as well let everyone have a chance.

None in Ohio, but an entire district tournament can be played in a few days in basketball.

 

 

Why does this excuse become a reasonable arguement? I thought the issue was that the first round is not competitive and everyone making the playoffs "diminishes" the playoff format..yada..yada? This arguement that keeps getting thrown around is about time (a district tournament can be played in a weekend. Does that make an aweful first round match-up a good excuse to keep the format the same?????). Nothing more meaningless in KY than the first round of the basketball district tournament!! It's not comparing apples to oranges because generally the result is stil the same. A 3 win basketball team is no different than a 0 win football team when it comes to the first round of the playoffs in any sport, yet when the sacred cow of KY (which I can't understand in a state that produces far more football talent than basketball talent...but that is for another thread) is brought into the discussion excuses are made. Bottom line, it's the same thing from premise to result!

Ive always felt that only 2 teams should qualify out of every district. Thats the only problem Ive ever had with this realignment. You could even have 3 teams go and shorten the playoffs by a week with the #2 seed playing the #3 seed with the #1 seed getting a first round bye.

I don't think the 1-9, 0-10 thing is a huge problem. The KHSAA just needs to go back to playing cross-district in the playoffs. Playoff rematches are a much bigger problem than 86% of the teams qualifying.
