First of all, I "alluded" to nothing. Let's try again: The people that are going to the Indiana boats will now be going to the Kentucky boats. They will be joined by countless other folks who did not go to the Indiana boats. I don't know how to make it any simpler.

 

Put it this way, if someone told me I was now the owner of KY's first riverboat gaming facility, I wouldn't be sweating my economic future.

 

Hold on now, this is not being sold as a great idea for some individual owner. This is being sold as some sort of economic savior for KY and a huge boon in taxes.

 

So, ALL THE PEOPLE going to INdiana boats will now be going to KY boats? Why are the Ohio people going? Why are the Indiana people going?

 

They won't. So don't be counting the money they have spent there in the KY revenue for the boat. So, we have that revenue around 1/3 for the KY casino.

 

So, when you say historically high and substantial, that is not accurate. I would expect it would be high to start while people want to try the new place. But the Ind people will venture back to theirs. The Ohio people will go to the place they like better. The KY people will venture either to the place they normally had went and like better or the KY location.

 

So, I would guess that it would be level off to about 1/2 of what an Argosy first posted as revenue with now 4 choices to the consumer.

 

And state loyalty will have minimal to no say in the matter. If it did, many NKYers wouldn't be going to Beechmont and Eastgate Malls to shop at the same stores they could be shopping at in Florence.

We already have alcohol, lottery, bingo, horse racing, online gaming/betting and soon to have casinos. Why not just complete the whole package and legalizing drugs in KY.:eek:

 

If this is all you have, then you dont have much. Some people will be irresponsible no matter what. We already have gambling (lottery, horse racing, online) so a casino won't make that big of an impact socially.

I have been to all of them in addition to West Virginia. Was in Vegas last summer. No comparison.

 

To Vegas? Of course not. But they still have quality entertainment there on a weekly basis. And I don't know how you could argue that Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse isn't a first-class restaurant. And the hotels at each are very nice, as well as the golf courses.

 

Each of the Indiana riverboats has similar amenities as a Vegas, they just don't have it all concentrated in one place.

I've been to Vegas many times, I've also been to Tunica, almost every Indiana Casino, New Orleans, Kansas City, St. Louis, Atlantic City, Freeport and many others too. Vegas is just the biggest that is why crime figures are the biggest. In my mind Tunica Mississippi should me the model for any area wanting to approve gamming.

 

Plus, Vegas is the fastest-growing city in the country, with nearly 2 million people in the area, and a heavy transient population. Plus, it gets 37.5 million visitors annually.

 

Might be more fair to compare Las Vegas' crime rate to a Mexico City, London or New York.

A casino in Newport or Covington would most likely attract people that don’t venture to Indiana. The Reds have 80 plus home games. People already come from Columbus, Huntington, Indy, etc. for a Reds game. The Bengals have 10 home games (including pre-season), that bring people in from all over the country. Plus all the conventions that go on in Downtown Cincinnati. Lawrenceburg is mostly locals. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, NKY has that!

By making casinos more accessible for those in the state that do not live close to the borders, you give them an easy access to ruining their lives because of their irresponsibility.

You seem to not understand (maybe because you're not from this area) that the vast majority of people patronizing the Indiana boats are KY and Ohio citizens. I thought that was explained in an earlier post.

The figures are historically very high. I invite you to try to prove otherwise. There are (as pointed out) not that many Indiana people. Those that are patrons of the Indiana boats will be drawn to the KY boats by the numerous other attractions nearby. Then we add in all of the Ohio and KY patrons. So your figures are completely invalid in that regard.

Nobody ever mentioned a thing about state loyalty. It's not about that. It's about consumer choice and providing the best product in the best location for the greatest number of people.
