November 8, 200718 yr I don't think I could ever see Richie become serious enough candidate to become governor but one of the rep positions for US House, I could. I disagree. I think he would get a heck alot of votes just for being a UK b-ball player. What really makes someone qualified to be gov anyways?? They all end up being a bunch of morons most of the time!
November 8, 200718 yr Not a lot of flat land to farm in Clay County. I'd say Richie would be hard-pressed to tell you what the state's annual burley yield is off the top of his head (which he should be able to do), while most local extension officers could probably tell you that, as well as break it down on a county-by-county basis in their area development district. Agreed!
November 8, 200718 yr I disagree. I think he would get a heck alot of votes just for being a UK b-ball player. What really makes someone qualified to be gov anyways?? They all end up being a bunch of morons most of the time! I think people vote for him as a former UK player and THEY FEEL he is running for a position that he can't mess up. Most if any really know what the Ag commissioner does. See it as some non-important position that you don't have to be overly qualified for. I think they take that vote a little more serious as Governor.
November 8, 200718 yr How was Richie any more qualified than Williams? besides he was ag comish for 4 years. I know an FFA officer that knows Richie & had worked with him some. They said he doesnt know anything about agriculture. Doubtful someone with majors in Ag Economics and Ag bus mgmt combined with his experience would not know anything about agriculture.
November 8, 200718 yr I don't think I could ever see Richie become serious enough candidate to become governor but one of the rep positions for US House, I could.Only if Ben Chandler decides to move on from that seat... No way he beats Ben, who would only have to worry about looking too mean in debates and making Farmer cry.
November 8, 200718 yr Only if Ben Chandler decides to move on from that seat... No way he beats Ben, who would only have to worry about looking too mean in debates and making Farmer cry. What if Ben decides to run against Bunning leaving his seat vacant?
November 8, 200718 yr What if Ben decides to run against Bunning leaving his seat vacant? That's what I was alluding to. Although Luallen might want a crack at that, too. If Mitch ends up looking just a LITTLE more vulnerable, then Chandler might even try for that seat. But my point is that as long as he wants it, he owns that district for the foreseeable future.
November 8, 200718 yr Doubtful someone with majors in Ag Economics and Ag bus mgmt combined with his experience would not know anything about agriculture. By that logic, then when I graduated with my journalism degree, I was qualified to be the publisher of a major metro daily? I mean, I had all the classes necessary to prepare me for a position of that magnitude, and practical field experience isn't really necessary, right?
November 8, 200718 yr Does Richie actually know the difference between a 'backer plant and a horse weed? For some reason I doubt it. But he could sure shoot the 'ol basketball.
November 8, 200718 yr Doubtful someone with majors in Ag Economics and Ag bus mgmt combined with his experience would not know anything about agriculture. he may have the paperwork but you also forget that he was a KY Legend playing for the Wildcats, so I'm a little less optimistic that he got the education that others did with that same major. This was what was told to me. I'm assuming everyone knows something about ag but probably the ag commish needs to know more than most!!
November 8, 200718 yr Doubtful someone with majors in Ag Economics and Ag bus mgmt combined with his experience would not know anything about agriculture. I could tell you of four or five former UK football players with these degrees that don't know much about agriculture.
November 8, 200718 yr This reminds me of Thomas Jefferson Johnson in "The Distinguished Gentleman"...
November 8, 200718 yr This reminds me of Thomas Jefferson Johnson in "The Distinguished Gentleman"... "...vote for Jeff Johnson. Jeff is good, just like them greens."
November 8, 200718 yr I'm pretty sure that not many people knew we had an Agriculture Commissioner until Mr. Farmer decided to put his name in that hat...
