So would it be fair to say you know nothing about journalism? To be fair, I think that's the point 75center was making in response to the comment about Farmer knowing nothing about agriculture. His degrees evidence that he must know something. For the record, I don't believe that qualifies him, and I would have voted against him if he didn't run against a nut case.

But I stand by the fact that he is no more qualified to be Ag Commissioner than I am to be publisher of the NY Times. Actually, probably far less qualified than I, from a comparative standpoint.

Farmer defeated David Lynn Williams, who has run unsuccessfully for about five or six different state offices(including governor). Williams stated in an interview that he was qualified to be the Agriculture Commissioner because he used to own a cable company that employed 300 people. He was also arrested this summer for menacing a Glasgow city clerk, who happened to be his niece. Check out this interview with Williams:

What I don't understand is how David Williams even won the primary? He faced David Neville who:

 

- Is a successful Shelby & Henry County farmer

- An Army veteran

- Holds a degree in marketing

- Sits on the Kentucky State University School of Business board

- Is involved in numerous local, state and national agriculture associations

 

Do people even bother to find out who is running in these lesser elections, or do they just flip a coin?:confused:

 

 

I'm from Glasgow and i've had the unfortunate honor to meet David Williams several times. I can assure you.. the man is a lunatic. I put ads on our local access channel, and he ran two ads at the same time.. one saying he's democratic.. and one saying he's republican. Thats not even the worst part.. the worst is when he tells the story about when he was abducted by aliens, and then brought back to earth. The paranormal doesnt even want him.. so why would anyone ever elect him to office?

We can only vote for those on the ballot and I didn't see a whole lot of other options? Should we vote against him because he was a former UK basketball player regardless of who runs against him?

 

As far as qualifications, I believe this is his 2nd term, which tells me that the voters of Kentucky seemed to think he did a better job than the opposition to him in the election could do. Does his past help him? Absolutely. But I want to hear how his opposition was much more qualified than he. If I see that in the next election, I would vote for that person. But in this election, I didn't see it.

98 percent of the voters in Kentucky, myself included, can't name one thing the guy has done since getting into office without looking it up on the Internet.

 

I already said his opposition was woefully unqualified as well. In races where both candidates are a joke, no shame in laughing at them by not casting a vote in that particular race. It's better than casting votes willy-nilly based on name recognition or party affiliation. Plus, when the final vote tally comes in and when it's noticed that the total votes cast in a particular statewide race falls short of other statewide races in the same election, it becomes clear the voters are voicing their displeasure with the lack of viable choice.

I disagree. I think he would get a heck alot of votes just for being a UK b-ball player.

 

I'm ready to test this theory. Anyone know what happened to Leroy Byrd? I think it's time we started prepping for the Governorship! And I am sure somewhere Todd Svodba would make a great State Treasurer!
