November 7, 200718 yr Got more votes than any other candidate in any other race in the state. Farmer-644,000 Bashear-619,000. Go CATS!!!
November 7, 200718 yr I voted for Richie... someone called me today and told me that if I "put Richie in the game, Kentucky would win by a hundered." I wasn't sure quite what he meant (or why he kept calling me 'Coach Teener') but he seemed so enthusiastic...
November 7, 200718 yr For real, though, anyone see the acceptance speach? "We had a message that really resignated with the voters."
November 7, 200718 yr Farmer defeated David Lynn Williams, who has run unsuccessfully for about five or six different state offices(including governor). Williams stated in an interview that he was qualified to be the Agriculture Commissioner because he used to own a cable company that employed 300 people. He was also arrested this summer for menacing a Glasgow city clerk, who happened to be his niece. Check out this interview with Williams: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:EP31jkV7xUcJ:www.keetoncommunications.com/Williams%2520Interview%2520Final.pdf+david+lynn+williams&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=us Scary stuff. What I don't understand is how David Williams even won the primary? He faced David Neville who: - Is a successful Shelby & Henry County farmer - An Army veteran - Holds a degree in marketing - Sits on the Kentucky State University School of Business board - Is involved in numerous local, state and national agriculture associations Do people even bother to find out who is running in these lesser elections, or do they just flip a coin?

November 8, 200718 yr Wonder how many people voted for David Williams thinking it was the house speaker?
November 8, 200718 yr Vote for the name they recognize. In my younger, more naive days I used to wonder why a candidate would spend so much money on those "Vote John Doe" bumper stickers or those campaign posters to be hung on the telephone pole or side of the barn. All they had was a name and, in some cases, photo of the candidate with no further information. Now I understand. When a person gets to the polling place and stares at the ballot, most will vote for a name they recognize even if they know nothing about the candidate.
November 8, 200718 yr I don't think I could ever see Richie become serious enough candidate to become governor but one of the rep positions for US House, I could.
November 8, 200718 yr How was Richie any more qualified than Williams? besides he was ag comish for 4 years. I know an FFA officer that knows Richie & had worked with him some. They said he doesnt know anything about agriculture.
November 8, 200718 yr Wonder how many people voted for David Williams thinking it was the house speaker? None of them. But all the people who voted for David Lynn Williams probably thought it was the Senate President. :sssh:

They said he doesnt know anything about agriculture. Not a lot of flat land to farm in Clay County. I'd say Richie would be hard-pressed to tell you what the state's annual burley yield is off the top of his head (which he should be able to do), while most local extension officers could probably tell you that, as well as break it down on a county-by-county basis in their area development district.
