I pick Mason County to win this one. They had better not take west lightly because they can play some very good football. I would not surprise me if West were to pull this one out. They are playing very well right now.

West can stay on offense by having those slow drives that take a quarter. Running their belly play over and over. It is hard to stop. West moved the ball well against Mason, especially in the first. West has moved the ball on every team they have played this year.

Raceland is a good team, but does that matter at this point in the season?

As for ball control, I think West is best on O when they run anything but the belly. The traps, Iso's, power sweeps, and the short controlled passing are where they make their money. On the belly, it's either Carroll for 10 yards or a loss. Yes, they do move the ball on every team they play, including when the played Mason and actually had the ball. The pooch kicks killed them, but I would expect they will be working on fielding those this week, and hopefully it won't be a problem. The biggest factor in this game however is Mason's passing game. West must bring some pass defense this week or it will be the same result. IF West can field the kicks (ever heard of a fair catch????), atleast slow the passing game, and limit turnovers it could be a good game. The biggest difference between week 3 and now is the comets have some diversity, then it was belly left or right or a deep pass, now they have multiple facets on offense. That said, Mason is a tough team, and is much more athletic and on PAPER should win. But, my friends that is why the games are played. I will not predict this game, because I really have no idea what will happen, it could be a blowout or a classic.

I am really hoping that West can keep it close to where they may have chance to pull it out at the end. Both Teams are very well coached. I will say "Go Comets" but I a picking Mason by 3td's, possibly more and hoping that I am wrong.

Everyone talks about how bad West's pass D is, but they are ranked in Class 3A as having a good pass D. Tied for fourth in their class. Raceland throws the ball alot and only scored 22 against the Comets. They actually ran the ball alot against West. If West is so easy to pass against why didn't Raceland throw it every down? Mason is much faster at receiver positions compared to West's defensive backs. That helps alot.

I'm picking Mason Co 34-27

Any news on the health of Mason County's starting QB? Will he play Friday night? Will he play in later playoff games (if they advance)?

I think anyone can win on any given night but what facets of West's game has changed so dramatically that Mr. Eastwood would call for the upset. I just wondered what specifically you or the Outlaw thought would turn the score in West's favor from 62-14 first meeting. By the way, unless you just drop the ball or throw a pass right into the chest of a defensive player turnovers are usually CAUSED by the defense!!!(Hit, Pick, Strip, Batted ball, Pressure on the QB, blocked field goal, stop on 4th down, etc.,etc.,etc.:confused:

 

 

It's just a prediction....nothing more..nothing less. I just think Mason has completely lost focus since the Russell game. Lackluster performances are not the way to head into playoff time. In all reality...Mason should win.....I just have a feeling they're ripe for the upset.

I'm gonna call the shocker. I look for Mason to go down. Team and staff have not responded well to the Russell loss. I know their QB was out last night....but that doesn't explain their anemic defensive performance. West Carter in the upset.

Hey, as for West pass defense, I'm not going to argue. Raceland doesn't throw as much as they use to, and really outside of Lewis County, everyteam we have faced runs more than they pass. It's pretty simple. Russell, East, Fairview, Bath, Morgan, and Nicolas, run almost every play, Mason and Raceland are balanced. And why would Raceland have passed more they had a back run for over 100 yards, and pretty much ran at will? Their days of 40 pass attempts a game are over, becaus they seem to like balance better as do most teams that can pass. I think we have a good passing game, but do we throw it 30 times a game? No, it wouldn't be as successful, teams would play pass coverage like Cover 2 instead of the normal man or cover 3 that we see. Well, most teams that run on everyplay want to do that, so naturally they are going to get alot of rushing yards everygame, unless they play a far superior team, which even though we are competetive, we aren't greatly superior to most of the teams we have faced. OUr pass defense isn't completely aweful because we do get a good rush, its the coverage that worries me, too many passes that should be defended turn into huge gains. Once again, I'm not trying to tear us down, but I'm realistic. That stat would be like saying that Lewis County was one of the top passing yardage teams in the state. It's true, but they also throw the ball 40 to 50 times a game. Stats are overrated. If you were at the Mason game, you'll remember that they started scoring when they started passing, with the aid of the recovered pooch kicks.

FWIW, I'd love for Coach Brown and the Comets come away with the win. The best chance they have is to win the turnover battle. They've struggled with alot of TO's the entire season. However, I think playing Mason at Mason is a tall order. I'll say Mason by a touchdown, but hope for another West last second victory.

NO way west scores 21 or any other odd number. THeir kickers hurt, and the other kickers a freshman, i don't think they'll use him. Alright that was nitpicking but I was bored.
