October 29, 200718 yr Bruce is along the lines of Hanley Ramirez. I think if an extension is in place, you trade Bruce... Great, in theory. However, given the organization's stance on Jay Bruce (again, as I told you, they and their scouts view him as a Future Hall-of-Famer) they will not trade him. They wonder aloud about Hamilton's ability to be healthy and dependable and will not trade Jay Bruce.

While a great story and I love the Christian aspect him brings to the Reds, that is a fair stance.
October 29, 200718 yr You don't trade Bailey/Bruce/Hamilton, etc for Santana 1 year. Has to be a commitment for several years to trade off your top young talent. For certain...that's a given...if they give up big time prospects for Santana, then they have to be certain they'll have him for more than one year. The way I look at it, if you get a guy like Santana, you can't lose unless he gets hurt and his career crashes. If he produces as expected, and the Reds still don't start winning more, they can always turn around and trade him to a contender for some new prospects...it's worth the risk, IMO. There plenty more position players that could produce adequately...there are very few pitchers at Santana's level. The effect a guy like that can have is more than just numbers...when you have someone who gives the team a real hope of winning every time he pitches, and a guy who can stop a slide every 5th day it would work wonders for keeping momentum on your side, rather than getting lost in a monster slump.
October 29, 200718 yr Arroyo/Hamilton and a prospect. With Bruce and Hopper coming no reason to keep an injury prone Hamilton.
October 29, 200718 yr Arroyo/Hamilton and a prospect. With Bruce and Hopper coming no reason to keep an injury prone Hamilton. I don't think they'll trade Bronson; he is a serviceable starter at an affordable rate. Frankly, I'm not sure Minnesota would want a $10 million starter coming back in return anyway.
October 29, 200718 yr Bruce, Bray, E-5, and a AA prospect for Santana. They would take nothing less unless it was Bruce, Votto, and Bray. Don't be surprised to see the Reds move BP to short and make a run for Marcus Giles.
October 29, 200718 yr Don't be surprised to see the Reds move BP to short and make a run for Marcus Giles. I will be surprised if that happens.
October 29, 200718 yr Trade anyone on the Roster Except for Dunn, Phillips, Bailey, Harang. I agree totally. I would try this: Griffey Hamilton Gonzalez Belisle They might take that, they might not, who knows. They need offense, and bad. Griffey, because he has value and is old. Hamilton because he has tremendous value right now. Gonzo because we already have Keppinger for the short-stop. The offense would be set. Hopper in center, Dunn in left, BRUCE in right. Votto on first, Phillips on 2nd, Keppinger at short, and Encarnacion at 3rd. Ross (hopefully not, but anyway) catching. Rotation would be Santana, Harang, Arroyo, Bailey, Livingston/Cuerto(later in the season, maybe next year)/Shearn/free agent. Bench would feature Valentine, Coats, Freel, and Cantu. I think it is a fair trade for both teams, but I still think that the Twins would not do it.
October 29, 200718 yr What pitcher in the right mind would want to come to Cincinnat? And pitch at the Great American Ball Park! That park is for hitters..and it always will be! I thought Colorado was too. Look how they pitched in the 2nd half of the season. Suddenly that park went from home run derby to hard to get a run. It all depends on the pitchers you have and the talent.
October 29, 200718 yr Anyone on the team outside of Aaron Harang would be fair game. If I had to actually propose a trade it would be..... Ken Griffey Jr. Homer Bailey Bill Bray
October 30, 200718 yr Bruce Griffey Gonzalez Belisle/or another minor leaguer Move BP to short and Kepp to 2nd...
