I wonder what the statistic would be if you combined offensive and defensive 3rd down percentage rankings. I can't imagine there is a team worse at it on both sides...

Cincinnati is 19th in 3rd down conversions on offense (41%) and 20th on defense (43%).

That's about where I expected the O. I thought the D was a lot worse...

Defense side may be an overrated stst. Carolina is 24th, Pittsburgh 25th, Indy 28th, and the Broncos are 30th. Miami is dead last, allowing 50% on 3rd downs.

With one of the 2 starters being a team captain after arriving after the start of the season. This team would be better on offense w/ Henry and some health but the D is as bad as it gets. They can look good on 1st and 2nd down occasionally but the pass defense is a disgrace.

Cincy is playing for a high draft pick and nothing more. Dag this stinks.

 

I REALLY hope they are smart enough to use it on somebody on the defensive front (DL or LBer)!

Did somebody say "funeral?" Yep, it sure looks that way from here, and not because the Bengals can't play defense but because they're no longer entertaining, effective or imaginative on offense.

 

"We need to be more aggressive," said coach Marvin Lewis. "We've got to get back to that. We've got to go out and push the ball down the field."

 

Once they did. But that was six weeks ago when they lost to Cleveland 51-45 on an afternoon when Carson Palmer threw six touchdown passes. You know how many Palmer has thrown since? Six. Yep, he has as many scores in five games as he had in one.

 

Big plays just don't happen to these guys anymore, and let's not get started on Chad Johnson. His longest catch Sunday was 16 yards. T.J. Houshmandzadeh put up a 28-yarder, but that was the big delivery for the day.

 

And that's the way it has been.

I really liked the Bolded parts. Marvin saying they need to get more aggresive, well it starts with you coach. You have a very conservative attitude and it seems to carried over to this team...

 

Also that unimaginative offense is very true as well. I remember Chad Johnson saying before the 1st game of the year, that the Bengals are still doing the same things as they did in 2005, while all these other teams have caught up and know what they are doing now, and I think it is starting to show very bad..Bob Bratkowski has never really been that creative with this offense, and its catching up a little bit now. I know I actually said this last year...I think the whole coaching staff is pretty darn bad...
