I would agree with that, but I have good reason to. (No I wasn't a part of that defense) You'll get many arguments from others. But hey, that is what this site is all about.

I will take it easy on him, because obivously he has done his homework to make such a bold statement like that.

 

The 82 team, I believe had 7 or 8 shutouts and beat the 4A state champ that year to become the overall state champ. Keep in mind that when this unit were freshman that they were unscored upon and nobody crossed the 50 yard line of them. That right there has to consider them one of the better ones with no argument!!!! Don't you think?

I always felt that the 2004 state team had a pretty decent Defensive Unit. How would you compare the the '82 and the '07 teams with '04?

I remember that game... The Safety bent over to tie his shoe and didn't know that ball had been snapped.

Boom, I would have like to seen the game against Christian County that year. County ended up winning the 4A title, winning all of their games on the road. They shut out Mark Higgs from Owensboro, and then defeated Bryan Station on their home field with 3 players who ended up in the NFL 28-0. Christian was lead by Jerry Reese, one of the best defensive line I've seen in high school and Mack Majors who did not play against Highlands.

I believe the game was played at the Rec. Bowlin Mt. Sterling at the beginning of the season. Reese was a dominating Noseman and I think went onto U.K and possibly spent a few years in the NFL. The Center for HHS (Les Murray) did a tremendous job against him that night.

Henry, since HHS doesn't keep many stats for defense it would be hard to statistically campare. But, the fact the 82 team had a number of shutouts and most of their defense that year was made up of the same group that went un-scored upon as Freshman, I'd have to go with them as the best. I hope others will help in my attempt to re-call that group.

Going off of memory, but I think I am in the ballpark. Rich Maile may have been the strong safety (Monster), but I thought it was Pao.

 

That defense was as good as it got. Not as much collegiate talent as some of the others Highlands has had; but just a solid scholastic unit.
