Going off of memory, but I think I am in the ballpark. Rich Maile may have been the strong safety (Monster), but I thought it was Pao.

 

That defense was as good as it got. Not as much collegiate talent as some of the others Highlands has had; but just a solid scholastic unit.

Herrmann didn't play O in '82.

Les Murray was the Center.

 

Tom New & Andy Braun were usually the O Tackles.

 

Dusty, Dave Fischer and others rotated at the guard opposite of Wenstrup.

Boom, I would have like to seen the game against Christian County that year. County ended up winning the 4A title, winning all of their games on the road. They shut out Mark Higgs from Owensboro, and then defeated Bryan Station on their home field with 3 players who ended up in the NFL 28-0. Christian was lead by Jerry Reese, one of the best defensive line I've seen in high school and Mack Majors who did not play against Highlands.

 

Tiger, you may be able to help us out if you know some Christian Cty football history. I recall hearing from someone that CC posted somewhere (newspaper, year book etc./ not real sure) that they claimed an undefeated season and went 14-0* that year and won the 4A State Championship.

It was great to see all the guys from the 82 Championship team on the field at the half.

 

I realized afterwards that there were even some in attendance celebrating the 45th anniversary of the '62 Championship (Roger Walz and Jim Burt)

It was only appropriate that it rain all night.

Wow! What a great gathering and it was really neat to see the guys in the stands meeting and greeting and watching another Highlands team carry on the tradition and winning #17th state championship.:dancingpa

It was great seeing all of you. I'm sorry that I missed Birdsfan, but at least I talked to him on the phone the night before.

 

My only regrets are that it took too long for us to get back together and the time we spent together Friday was too short.

 

And I want to thank the KHSAA for making this possible. Thank you, Brent Miller.
