When you go back and look at who we as fans have predicted to play in Louisville we usually don't do very well. I think last year Mercer was picked from the, I'll call it west. We all picked that. 5-A team playing down. Good choice. Out of the east Belfry was picked at least from the survey of the Russell vs Belfry game.

 

I do although feel that we as a whole have it right this year. Central vs Belfry. My opinion.

 

I think that Belfry will open the eyes of those in the east. They will control the line of scrimmage and physically run the ball down the middle all night long. They will ware Central down even though they have had a demanding schedule.

Hey quit trying to motivate your guys lol. Honestly though Belfry is the wise head pick for anybody right now, and heart pick for me, but it wont be easy.

And I really think the east will win it this year, the Johnson Central and Louisville Central game really goes to show me they dont like physical play, and somebody fromt he east will bring the ball right at them.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the score, but I think you could flip-flop the teams names on any given night.....I have heard nothing but great things about Belfry's style of football, but Central packs a punch too. Personally, I would pick Central as the favorite. I just feel like their abundance of athleticism gives them the edge.....

I talked to a very unbiased person from Johnson County, they told me Central was very athletic and fast. But wanted no part of physical moutnain football, and if that be the case I guarantee you one of the teams fromt he East, whoever it is, has a nice little suprise for them.

I guess we expected more from Central when they played Johnson Central. Maybe we as fans over rated them. Just a thought.

Or maybe Central was simply a team having a bad night or a team that not used to traveling much that didn't respond well to a three-hour road trip.

 

There is no reason to think that a team that played Manual to the end and beat Bullitt East is going to get squashed by Johnson Central on a regular basis. Central had a bad night, plain and simple.

I know the WKY fans are hoping Paducah or Central(even though I don't really see them as west) can provide a strong showing and win it all this year. They may very well do it. It appears that both teams have such tremendous athleticism that it may be difficult for any eastern team to compete at the Pizza Box.

The only real "punch in the mouth" was Breathitt County over Corbin in 2002, and that may have been the worst 2A field ever on the western side of the state. Since then ... Belfry beat Elizabethtown in overtime and beat Owensboro Catholic by a touchdown. Russell beat Owensboro Catholic 27-14, but the score was 13-7 midway through the third quarter. And the west side won it last year.

Your post implied that the eastern side has been much better than the west the last few years ... and you're not the only eastern fan that makes that claim.

 

That was true in 2002, but I don't know that there has been that huge of a difference in the four seasons since then.

Since 1995...Caldwell is the only pure Western KY team to win a championship at the 2A level. Obviously, realignment has changed some things...but....at the 2A level you have to agree that WKY schools have struggled.

Considering that in the old 2A, most of the eastern half of the bracket was mountain schools, those numbers aren't all that shocking.

Corbin shouldn't even be considered a western team. The reason is say that is to follow up with the fact that the team Corbin beat to get to Louisville was Webster County, who had to travel like 5+ hours just to get to Corbin. Corbin only beat them 28-21. That score likely would have been different if Corbin had made the trip.

 

All this to say that while eastern Kentucky has been a bit more successful on the whole, they probably weren't "head-and-shoulders" above their western Kentucky brethren.

This may be very true. I know what a bad night is like. I wish them well and IMO will be pushed around in Louisville by Belfry, Russell, or Breathitt. When I say pushed I mean the line of scrimmage will be dominated. Then again maybe Central will smack one of these eastern teams in the mouth. That I don't think will happen but you never know. Someone may have a bad night as you say.
