Interesting take on things, considering that Elizabethtown took Belfry to overtime. Belfry beat Prestonsburg twice that year but didn't play Russell at all, so maybe your memory is just a little faulty.

They are obviously a contender but with a potential of Mason, Breathitt, & Belfry in consecutive weeks their season could end in any of those games. Belfry is the CLEAR favorite right now. Not sure anyone can touch them this year. Now, I'm not sure they are as good as the Howard & Jones led teams but I don't think they need to be this year.

JD is referring to 2 different seasons, westsider(and maybe I'm getting a bit senile in my old age but, IMHO, I feel it's too early for these kids to find out how cruel politics can be in the political arena, but I keep hearing the same old song and dance, and it simply ain't so!). I realize I'm stepping on a few toes here, but I feel the need to tell it as it is(at least for the past several years, or so), and hope my comments don't create any animosity toward anyone other than myself, although the adults who enjoy playing here do so with the kids' thought process which will, more than likely, ultimately transcend to the playing field where the kids should learn that hard work, determination, and perseverance, plays a much larger role in the transition to their next level, and should determine wins and losses. But this probably will continue, at best or, more likely, get worse! But you should consider KHSAA's influence, and politics(Pike always sends a very large number to the polling booths, which should be sufficient but, unfortunately, only helps to perpetuate this with those who choose to take advantage of it :irked: ) which, unfortunately, a select few benefit from, and who pass along the wrong lesson for our kids to learn what degree it can have in their future(most will never enter the political arena) leaving them to sort this out on their own, and losing time better spent on the opportunities available to them in preparing for life as an adult. An example, as a matter of fact, is the opportunity for Belfry to host the playoffs through Semi-State both this year and next! :creepy: Also, I watched the Owensboro Catholic game you mentioned fall prey to this situation. But Prestonsburg, while not playing their best regular season game at home should, nevertheless, have won that game with Belfry if not for only a couple of strategic penalties. And, if not for the injuries finally taking their toll at Breathitt Co.(and P-Burg continues to struggle even more, as time passes, to get enough numbers to allow even enough to play both sides of the ball, much to the pleasure of the many detractors, with the reason, not the least of which is, in part, due to this) which, if hosted at P-burg wouldn't have been the case as it would have been a different opponent, with the subsequent game with Belfry played at P-Burg and more difficult for the officiating to have influenced the outcome. I realize very few will see it as I do, but I will sleep better after this, much as those involved, who could care less, do! :thumb:

This may be very true. I know what a bad night is like. I wish them well and IMO will be pushed around in Louisville by Belfry, Russell, or Breathitt. When I say pushed I mean the line of scrimmage will be dominated. Then again maybe Central will smack one of these eastern teams in the mouth. That I don't think will happen but you never know. Someone may have a bad night as you say.

 

I saw Central play last night against St X. VERY athletic. #6 was a beast of a runner with break away speed. #1 has tons of talent but not great hands for a receiver. #7 QB also talented thows a decent ball. Overall I was impressed with how much talent they had. I was not impressed with their lack of discipline. Now thay were playing a team thats ranked in the top 30 or so in nation. But by the end of the game central wanted nothing to do with the physical nature of the game. IMO if central doesn't self destruct and get beat before the state title game, Russell and/or Belfry will beat them because of their hardnosed style. I don't know anything about Breathitt but my guess would be that they would also be more physical than central.

Frustration as well, with Hughes' ACL injury as the latest example, is a contributing factor. Ordinarily, multiple injuries during seasons separated by 3 years wouldn't provoke such thoughts..... :confused:

For the record, Belfry only gets the homefield advantage you cite every other year. The 2003 state title came after winning at Middlesboro and Lloyd to get to the carpet.
