Back to the actual game, in many ways I think it's a good thing Russell played Simon Kenton and Mason County back-to-back helps because it gave them a chance to be physical. Raceland will certainly be physical and try to hit Russell in the mouth. The two games leading up to this will help the Devils punch back. Do they have they have the quickness though up front to disrupt the Rams passing game?

In the 70's, we played a few of our games on Saturday. most of those were scheduled with Ohio or West. Va. schools. I don't recall playing any Ky. schools on Saturday.

 

I rmember a few games being played on Saturdays, mostly due to one or the othet team making a long trip I believe.

 

I only remember playing one Saturday game. That was in '91 when we made the trip to Lynchburg VA, to play Lynchburg Christian Academy at Liberty University. It was the only game Lynchburg lost all season:D

Correct, :thumb: I would love to see the Tomcats come to Raceland as well but If I am going to play anyone all at their place it would be Ashland at Putnam. I love watchng fooball there and I believe that the Raceland kids like playing there as well, so much history and tradition in a well maintained, top notch facility and always great field conditions.

I personally would not consider that scenerio anywhere or with anyone else.

 

 

Now how much fun would that be to have Ashland come to Raceland. Tell me the truth now. Isn't it more fun to beat them on there own field? After all Raceland has been pushing them around just a bit.

Just hope the rain dies down so they don't have to move the game to Putnam Stadium (LOL). Raceland needs a retractable roof over Ram stadium like the Seahawks have!

Your right, and I have said it to, this game is more important to these two teams then some people would admit to:

Firstly: it is a game between two of the area's very good programs, that should have been playing for a long time.

Secondly: it is good competition for both programs, and it will make both teams better. I know Russell's pass defense has been tested the last two weeks and this game will give them more experience with the pass defense and help them prepare for different teams in the playoffs. Raceland's run defense will improve from this game as well and prepare them for the playoffs.

Thirdly: Playoff atmosphere. I don't think either team will see a bigger crowd this season and make for a good atmosphere to prepare both teams for large hostile crowds.

Fourthly: Both communities will embrace this game. These two schools are unique in that they each have two cities in their districts, there will be four cities represented at this game, with many people who grew up in one district and now split between the two schools or rooting for the opposite school.

 

I personally think this will be the best high school football atmosphere that I have ever witnessed, and probably the best that many at the ball game have ever witnessed. Good luck to both teams, and I hope both fan bases have a great time.

 

Great Post, The last time Raceland beat Russell was 1969, 8-6. The game winning two point conversion was scored by one Kenny Clark, (70) Raceland graduate. He is the father of former Russell RB star Kasey Clark. Kenny's wife Lynn has been a teacher at Russell for 35 years, and his oldest son Jason is the current Lady Rams Volleyball and Softball Coach at Raceland and teaches elementary PE at Raceland. Jason (1994) grad played for the Rams. Thanksgiving in this household will be very interesting this year. By the way Kenny will be at the game wearing orange Friday night:thumb:. Like you said their are alot of deep ties to this game and to the area of the 4 communities.:ylsuper:

I certainly remember that game Ram, believe that not only that it was the only game that the Lynchburg Acdamey lost that year but they were also the Va. State Champs in their division for that season and maybe the one before as well.

:thumb::thumb: I certainly have family and good friends on both sides. (including a brother in law and his brother that were two of the very best basketball players in Russell's history and they had cousins that played at Raceland) :thumb:

Both of my Sisters and myself married Russell grads and one sister retired as a teacher in the Russell school system and her kids graduated from Raceland.

 

If for nothing else (as I said earlier) a good measuring stick right before playoff time. If it didn't matter they wouldn't play! Maybe Raceland has more to gain from this game, but I can't honestly believe that Russell would rather play a doormat right before the playoffs as opposed to good competition, not to mention why play a team where the fans don't have good support or don't care, especially a non-district one?

I guess he thinks that we don't know the real story. Raceland was on the schedule very early, penciled in before last season was over.

 

What was left, please. Just because FBALL does not want Russell to play Raceland does not mean the the Russell administration does not want Russell to play Raceland.
