I didn't think they were flat, EKU. SC was pumped up and Belfry had to make some adjustments and wear them down. This Pirate team will be very hard to beat in a 4 quarter game by any 3A school. But they are not perfect and if anyone comes to a high school game expecting a perfect game, they will be disappointed. Looking at the whole game, I was pleased with the effort and the result tonight.

 

Of course, fans are not always fair or level headed. I heard lots of fans near me criticizing Coach Haywood last week at Pike Central. Even when the long snapper sent the snap over the head of the punter, one guy loudly blamed Coach Haywood, as if he had anything to do with it.

 

I guess flat wasn't the right word, but nonetheless, the fact that SC was so pumped for this game when Belfry was the team entering the game with perverbial "chip on their shoulder" from last season, sort of surprised me. I mentioned in the preview thread about all the off field distractions Belfry was contending with, it makes me wonder if they had anythign to do with the start.

 

On a side note, I have to say that tonight was the quietest I have ever heard a capacity Belfry side. When 2500 people have to eb told by the PA man when to stand up and cheer on a 4th down and 5 play with a 14-7 score in the district championship game, then I am concerned that the Pond Creek nation is beginning to become complacent. Just a gripe I have...

I agree with your gripe too, EKU. Fans just didn't seem all that into the biggest game of the year thus far. I know I stood the WHOLE game, ringing my bell like a madwoman..LOL I couldn't sit. My crew is always loud. I am always crazy.. I don't know why everyone else is so blah.. I know a few of the Pirate faithful that always yell... but everyone else seemed asleep. SC fans were rowdy... Thats what I want our fans to do.. Need to get fired up.. our boys are 8-0 ... come on ppl, you gotta get behind our boys.. the louder we are the more they love it.. the more cranked they get.....:madman::madman:

To the game...I don't have the time right now to really elaborate, but goodness gracious I can't tell you how impressed I was with the game Charlie Dotson had last night. If there was a big hit or big defensive play it was made by Dotson. Offensively, that's the best I've seen him run the ball, too.

 

Dustin did what he consistently does and punished tacklers. Ivan needs to get those pads down and initiate some contact when running the ball. And I couldn't really tell what exactly SC was doing to cause some confusion with Andrew, but he looked a little tentative to pull the trigger a couple of times last night in the first half.

 

But all of this is just nitpicking...overall it was a great win against a good team.
