I'm sick of pets and children running households in this country. People need to get a grip on what is essential in life. Simple economics, distinguish between needs and wants. Don't cry over spilled milk, and when a pet dies, is lost, or taken away get a new one if you feel bad.

I like Ellen. Mutts & Moms deserves to go out of business. Ellen compounded her mistake by trying to use the TV as a bully pulpit. I do believe Ellen is genuinely sad, and I also think she is using her genuine sadness as a genuine publicity stunt. However, 'IggyGate' needs to fade into oblivion and not hang around like so many of these other ridiculous news events.

As a pet owner, I know they become part of the family and are loved. And I understand Ellen's emotion about the situation. BUT, this is something that needs to be carried out in private life, not on a nationally syndicated TV show.

Some on here must never have had children who lost a pet before. Children become attached very quickly and I have no problem in Ellen being upset about this entire situation and the impact on those kids who were giving a pet a home. It is not my right or anyone elses to tell someone how to feel if put in that situation. Doesn't make them 'wusses' or anything else. I have lost my share of pets over the years, one VERY recently. And guess what, .. this grown man cried like a baby.

 

I hope the organization has to change their policies. No, pets aren't human. However, they can become members of a family. In the past 9 months, I have lost my 12 year old nephew to a horrible house fire and a pet. Naturally, there is no comparison between the two losses and the level of pain my family and I felt. However, discounting someone emotions just because you have no compassion is just heartless IMHO.

 

As far as the calling off work situation, that is between her and her network, producers, etc. If they have an issue with it, they will deal with it. I have had employees who worked for me who NEVER missed work, even when ill, who have called off due to the death of a pet or taking the pet to the vet. Since there was no pattern of poor attendance or issues with job performance, and they had so many days of Personal Time to use as they saw fit, I had no problem with it. If they don't have an issue with it, then why should any of us?

There is a justifiable market reason for the clause. I don't think they should have enforced it in this case, but I don't agree they should be required to remove the clause from their contracts.
