So the Indians had to find another one. They found country singer Danielle Peck. I'm sure its just a coincidence that Peck used to date Beckett. Coincidence only. Add in Manny's quote this week saying that if they don't win the ALCS its "no big deal." Drama out the wazoo.

How much of that is lost in translation? Is it a 2nd language problem or is that what he really meant? Heard him mention that on Rome's show right after lunch - made sense to me. The guy says nothing all year, then gets jumped on when he does. I'd probably stay quiet, too.
October 18, 200718 yr Maybe Manny is just trying to keep the team loose to some degree...instead of talking about how big this is, he keeps it in perspective...it's just a game, not life and death. Down 3-1 is definitely not the best place to be, but as a Sox fan, I'm just not nervous. First off, I agree with Manny...it's not life or death. Second, I think this team has the makeup to win 3 in a row from Cleveland. For tonight, I have a lot of confidence in Josh Beckett to take care of business and send this thing back to Fenway. After that, although Schilling struggled, I still feel good about him taking the mound in an elimination game. My worry comes with Dice-K...if the Red Sox do somehow manage to force a game 7, I don't have a lot of faith in Dice-K to deliver the goods. If that happens, hopefully Francona will have him on a very short leash. The odds are definitely against Boston winning this series and I can't say that I'm expecting that to happen at this point. However, I think they are very, very capable of doing that and it wouldn't surprise me if they did. Like I said, I still like the combo of Beckett and Schilling in big playoff games...hopefully, at that point, if a game seven occurs, the Indians will be feeling the pressure of blowing a 3-1 lead and Dice-K can relax. I mean, weren't the Sox down to the Yankees 3-1, or something like that, once...

You never know; I remember the conversation about Beckham's wife - everyone was drooling all over her but to me she looked like a strong wind would blow her away.

He never said that the series was over, just that it wouldn't be the end of the world if the Sox did lose. I think it was more an attempt to keep the team loose and to point out that they had been in a worse situation before. As for screaming me, me me......Manny is far from a selfish player, he routinely cuts down his swing and tries to drive in runs and, although he can be a butcher in the outfield he goes at it pretty hard. I think one of Bill Simmons readers hit the nail on the head with this quote: Mark from Philly offers an inspiring defense for Manny's home run preening: "When Manny went deep, my first thought was, 'Quit posing, Manny, we're still down 7-3.' Then it dawned on me that Manny probably had no idea what the score was. In fact, he probably isn't aware that baseball games are determined by which team scores more runs. October 18, 200718 yr What, the $100 million man with the 4.50 era? :devil: He did still win 15 games and strike out 201 while only allowing 191 hits in 204 innings. I think he'll really start to pay dividends next season after having a year to adjust to the league and more importantly, life under the Boston microscope. His stuff wasn't his problem this year it was his location, I'd much rather have money tied up in his contract than many others out there.
