The student section is the saddest part of the whole deal. I remember back in the day that Corbin would have 20 deep painted up running the team on the field. Not to mention the rest of the students out there in the spirit line and in the stands. I looked over and saw a student section of about 15 people the other day. It was sad to say the least. Cheerleaders and other fans were also pointing that out. I know a lot of the kids on the team and it's not like they have some superior mindset that would bully kids in school to keep them from wanting to cheer them on when Friday Night rolls around. I personally just can't see what is more exciting in this town on a Friday night than football. It's not like the students can go to the bars and drink on the weekends.

There are those that prefer a more sedate atmosphere...they do not want the kids to be TOO ROWDY, and act "properly". You and I both know that it is a sad set of circumstances that causes this...because yes the kids and staff work hard, and should have some support...there are also those that aren't excited about the program anymore...especially some of the old-timers.

It seems like most days people tend to want to just show up and fellowship as if they were Hab or something.

It was packed for the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic. I know there were two games, but for the Dunbar game, it was packed on the Redhound side of the field.

Pigskin has become dull as well. No music no halftime entertainment.........

The students usually show up at the games, but they are not into them at all until usually deep into the playoffs. The atmosphere a couple of years back when Corbin beat E-town and then lost in the state semifinals to O-Cath I believe is what you are looking for on a week to week basis.

 

Most of the kids at Corbin today seem much different than the kids that I went to school with(or maybe just the ones that I ran with), which is for the most part a good thing.

Guys, it's a reflection on society in general. Students and adults have more entertainment options today than two or three decades ago. Corbin isn't unlike dozens of similar schools across the state.

Kids in general don't take much seriously these days. There is very little school spirit going around and it's reflective in the football crowds at many tradition rich programs. Kids have too many options and a community the size of Corbin (like we are in Pulaski County/Somerset) just filters the desire for the"spirit"that was common a generation ago. I have been to Danville and others and it's not just Corbin experiencing this.

 

Another factor is the number of athletes playing different sports like soccer, volleyball, golf, cross country, and fall basketball/baseball, and do other activities that lessen the impact of Friday night lights. It won't change until the schools start "marketing" the games with promos that get the community back in the seats IMO. Alumni nights, Hall of Fame Inductions, One Price Family Nights, Corporate Promos, etc. will bring the numbers up. Once they experience the excitement again, it may change.

Here's an idea that would work. get the local cell phone companies to give away a year's worth of text messaging to a student fan at the game. They'll show up in numbers. It would cost a cell company about $75 for this service, and I'm sure that they wouldn't care to do it. The craziest fan each week wins! Watch the rowdy student section.:ylsuper::dancingpa:dancingpa

I can't help but think the passing of high school marching bands have something to do with it.

 

I really miss a real live band, regardless of how off-key, playing the fight/school songs and marching the half-time show.

 

Canned music is definately NO substitute. It's extremely sad to hear a professional recording of your school's fight song echo through the stands. :cry:

Maybe the school needs some new ideas? Make a trip to a Johnson Central home game and check out some of the things that they do. Outstanding atmosphere!!!

 

I haven't seen hundreds of games like some on this site; but of all the places I HAVE been, Johnson Central does it best!

You will get plenty out of a band if you go attend a game at Dayton High School.

Onething that has hurt Corbin was the district that Corbin has been in the past several years, and this makess me nervous with Lynn Camp crowds in there new district. When Corbin played in a district with Rock, Middlesboro, and Somerset, I think it brought out a lot of people, because they was always an exciting matchups. Dropping Bell this year, doesn't help Corbin either. Getting in the district with Middlesboro, and the game meaning more then it has the past few years will help.

How much is the recent success of Lynn Camp and Knox Central playing into this?

 

I agree with this statement about Knox Central but for the most part Lynn Camp, for their size, has had much success for the last 15 years or so, with a only a few down years. I also agree going to a Corbin football game over the past years was almost like going to a good college game but the ones I have been to the last couple of years was pretty much like any place else.

I agree with you LC but even the Middlesboro game was a bland atmosphere. On paper and due to the rivalry, one would think that Middlesboro would generate that. However from the looks of things Middlesboro is gunning towards being another Casey County rather than Rockcastle if their Middle School programs fall is any indication.
