I have only voted for one Republican in my life . Barry Goldwater, I was only 18 and young and dumb . And that will not change this year or for that matter the next . Ernie needs to be relugated to the history books and the sooner the better .

You do realize that the local property taxes go to the local district. It would be interesting to note what % of a local district budget came from state? Federal? and local?

 

Talked to a good friend of mine who serves as a superintendent.

 

Some interesting things from that discussion.

 

Out of their 40 mil budget, $8 mil came from federal government, through grants, program funding, and such. I was surprised it was that high.

 

SEEK, State funding, was 13.750 million. About a 1/3.

 

The rest from local sources and some other sources such as tuition, interest income, etc.

 

They also pointed out some things about the budget. Parts of revenue are earmarked. For example, SEEK funds CANNOT be used for athletics, except coaches salaries. Any athletic funds have to come from gate receipts, fundraisers or local taxes.

 

The federal funds for the most part are tied with specific programs and cannot be used for things that are not tied with those programs. For example, the school district has a Vocational program and the Carl Perkins money they receive can ONLY be spent on the vocational programs of Business, Ag, Marketing, Tech Ed and Consumer and Family Resources.

 

So when you see $40 million as a budget, the district doesn't really have $40 mil to spend as they may see fit. The other things they receive from state and federal have specific guidelines and for the most part athletics is not part of that.

I thought most of BGP was to the right of reason.

 

Some are, just as some are to the left of lunacy.

I don't recall ever voting for a Democratic Candidate for Governor.....before this year.

 

Ditto. I haven't turned on Fletcher due to the hiring scandals. My problem with Fletcher is 1) Last time, he campaigned on a promise to try and lure more health insurance companies back into the state thereby increasing competition and PERHAPS lowering premiums as a result. However, nothing has even been attempted in regard to this. 2) Never campaign on a "clean up the mess in Frankfort" platform unless you mean it. 3)The vile "Tax Modernization Act" passed during his administration. 4)His opposition to casino gambling while the lottery, horse racing and other forms of gambling are already present.

 

Although it won't be an enthusiastic vote for Beshear, I'll cast one for him nonetheless.

Vote counts the same though. And I think that is what Beshear is hoping for. Stay out of the way, do nothing dumb and let the voters dissatisfaction on a few things lead them to overlook what would be the positives of Fletcher's administration get Beshear the victory.
