Houlehan P of CovCath graduated last spring and what a shame that he was hurt last season. CovCath missed his pitching very much.

I don't think there will be as much of a drop off in talent as there will be a lack of experience. Most of the kids that graduated the Ryle and Cov Cath programs had 3 years varsity experience. Cov Cath had five or six sophs that will play with a years experience behind them, Ryle had eight juniors that will play with a years experience and everyone Beechwood played was very young so they go into 08 with a years experience.

3) Ryle: happy days are gone again... sorry to split your talent pool up.. next year.

However, this year, can the cream rise to the top??????????

They have one of the best pitchers/ players in the region in Nichols. When he is on the hill, Dixie is a team to be reckoned with.

This years Ryle team will have to find an identity. Ryle's philosophy in the last couple of years due to the emense talent pool is to play the Seniors and then fill in with Juniors. This year is much the same except there will be more of a battle for starting positions because the Juniors coming in have a alot of talented players. The pitching and defense should be every bit as good as last year but they will have to see where the hitting will come from. Hard to immediately replace hitting stats that came from Wagner, Murray, Layne, Oliver, O"Hara.

 

The comment about splitting the talent pool won't apply until the 2010 season because this years Juniors in 2009 won't have to move because they will be Seniors, and that just happens to be the players from last years JV Regional Championship team that went 26-3. I believe Ryle will be very competitive this year but the 2009 team will IMO more than likely fight it out with Cov Cath to see who goes to State.

Coach Demler got them ready, Pat will take them up a notch. It will be fun to see them back at Applebee's in June.

My understanding is that the when the new school opens in 2009 the Seniors from the different high schools that are involved (Ryle/Conner/Boone) will be given a choice whether to stay or go the the new school in their newly formed districts. In 2010 there will no choice involved, you will go to the school in your district.

It's nice to be talking high school baseball in October. If the fan expectations are high for their repective teams, what about the expectations from the players? The players will be getting the feeling to play before long.

In a couple of years Holy Cross might be loaded again. There are some nice young pitchers on the way. It doesn't seem like they really have a down year. New Cath has some nice talent returning, if it all comes together.

Don't count Boone out. They have lots of talent returning. The Rebels probably like all of the chatter about the Radiers, Tigers and Colonels because they can stay under the radar for a little while.

9th Region baseball should be very nice to watch next spring.

Frankly, as dumb as this may sound (or read), with the limited amount of time coaches have to look at kids and decifer talent, it's an advantage for a coach with a team of 15 good players as opposed to one with 45 good players to choose from... but, it sure would be nice to line up 45 versus 15 kids to see if you could find a pitcher or two. In most instances, I just don't think that there is a whole lot of difference between a Sr or Jr in high school. About the only thing that I see making a noticable difference in talent are the kids that play in a more advanced league of ball during the summer, and I can't tell if the kids are playing up or playing down in their age bracket. IMO, there are a lot of exceptions out there, whether it's age or size, and you need to look for it.

 

The comment about the talent pool, well taken, but your GUESS is as good as mine.

Most varsity coaches have an ideal if a kid can play when they are freshmen. They know what summer clubs they play on and they watch them come thru the freshmen and JV ranks and get a lot of input from their coaches. They have a very good ideal of the 20 kids they will keep from the 45 tryouts. They still look at everyone because every once in a while you have a transfer student or a diamond in the rough, someone under the radar.

Didn't Sainola pitch for CovCath last year????:confused::confused: He is no slouch...
