Are you saying that for you the test works fine because you are a good teacher and your students do well on the test. But for teachers that may not have experience or just not all that great of educator and their students may perform poorly , that is the kids fault?:confused:

 

No, but I see your point. What I am saying is that I could be the best teacher in the world, but the kids know that they do not HAVE to do well on the CATS test. It doesn't effect whether or not they graduate, how much KEES money they get, whether or not they get into college. My job could be in jeopardy if students just decide that it doesn't matter and "throw" the test.

 

There are other ways to measure the effectiveness of teachers. Anyone is welcome to come into my classroom ANY day and they will see quality education occurring.

On a side note, the Fort Thomas educational foundation is trying to raise 1.22 million in order to match a state grant of 1.22 million in January. Seems to me someone is buddy buddy with the state. :sssh: Not to talk bad about Fort Thomas, but they are demanding a lot of money from an already stretched Education Department.

Just listened to Fletcher/Beshear debate. I was simply shocked to hear Gov. Fletcher state he has fully funded preschool and kindergarten in his four years! Outstanding development. Especially since most preschool programs are federal programs and kindergarten continues to receive 1/2 per student funding from the state!

Overall, I think that they should count the non adjusted score over the adjusted one. The reason being is that they changed the formula and it short changed many schools. They should put the adjustments in for this year.

I think turfed fields are irrelevent to this discussion. Most are privately funded and studies have shown are actually cost efficient when compared to maintenance on grass fields.

Gaps usually refer to different groups having widely separated scores. For example, those students who qualify for free/reduced lunch vs. those that don't, those identified as gifted/talented vs. those that are not, males vs. females. You can see these by looking at the Performance Reports on KDE.

Sorry but that web site is a complete waste and like John Williamson (Ft. Thomas superintendent) "I think it is a mess".

 

Fort Thomas is a small bedroom community of private homes. There is zero industry. Small busnesses yes but not one large corporate entity, lets say like Newport has Newport on the Levey. Major bucks. Therefore Fort Thomas is made up of mostly homes and small businesses. Convenients, florist, etc. Therefore my tax bill , which came while I was at the High School doing some extra spurcing up, was comprised of 2/3 to the school and 1/3 to the city.

 

Now, I'm at the school painting and others are planting and the state won't give us money to AC our 1920's building unless we raise a certain amount and then they MAY match that. Give me a break. I've been to other schools and I know whatchya got. And every time I pull into those "parking lots" and up to that "beautiful new school" I think about where my "tax Money" (SEEK) is going.

 

Finally somethings are happening in Fort Thomas and it is long over due.

Newport Independent doesn't receive jack from the Leevee.

Significant tax breaks on that place...little or no money is received from there.

I understand what your saying, I don't want to see any student in KY fall behind. However, don't penelize the school's that are succeeding by cutting their funds.

I believe that Ft Thomas schools recently had some money in their FSPK to build something/fix something and the superintendent sat on the ball...hence he was sent out the door.

If more money educates kids better then how would one explain Cincy public?

 

Ohio funds their schools completely different than Kentucky.

If the courts had not ruled it unconstitutional, I don't think the legislature makes a change.

The judge threatened to throw the legislators in jail if they did not come up with a new system.

There is another lawsuit out there regarding funding in the state of Kentucky.
