September 30, 200718 yr Mandatory? Dont think so. However, I would support a truly RANDOM drug testing in my school. If you make things mandatory for all schools, the cost alone might be too much for some schools.
September 30, 200718 yr Author As a parent, I would be more than happy to help foot the bill that would allow my child to be tested in order to participate--just like the physical. If it would give kids a reason to stay off drugs, it would be worth every penny.

However some schools are struggling financially to keep up with other mandatory issues, and still trying to educate our children, which is their real job. If the state was willing to pay for it up front, I would all for it.
September 30, 200718 yr Graves County, just started a program where anyone who drives a vehicle onto campus or is involved in a club/athletics may be randomly drug tested. There has been some backlash from parents, but overall I have heard positive things about the program Graves has going!

October 1, 200718 yr I have said this before and will again..the employees at our school are subject to a random drug test. When the supreme court says we can randomly test ALL students (not just those with privileges..i.e. sports,driving and clubs),then I will support it. My reasoning is this..If the students have the right to know that anyone in charge of them is free of drugs,then the employees at the school should have the right to know that ALL students are free of them as well. All who enter the door have a right to feel safe. When I was on the board,I heard the argument that if we CARE about our kids,then we should allow it...the supreme court has ruled that only students with privileges may be tested. What message does that send to the rest of the students..that we don't care about them? A board has to have ALL the student's welfare in mind..not a select few. Off my soap box now!! LOL!
October 1, 200718 yr Our employees are tested and yes I definitely agree, you must start with employees and then with students. We did a survey with students and parents and had 70% support so I think this shows that most students, at least ours want drug testing. Our students said that just the threat of being tested was an easy out for them to resist peer pressure and say no.

When we had representatives go to our board about this issue, they wanted all students to be randomly drug tested, but as you stated they can't. As for you statemeyt, a board has to have all the student's welfare in mind..... the supreme court needs to think about that also. I will and am drug tested and would anytime needed and cannot see how this infringes on anyone's rights. Drugs are illegal and if you are not doing something illegal, I dont' see why you would care.
