Cincinnati St. Xavier 47 Trinity 31

Featured Replies

I may take some heat for this but I think St. X toyed with Trinity to an extent in the first half.

On the 96.5 interview Coach Specht praised T up one side and down the other and he said he was out coached. I know Coach Specht is tight with Coach Cov from T but I thought he put it on a little heavy. In my opinion, X wasn't necessarily out coached, Coach Specht just a made a decision to practice (if you will) his two minute drill, his passing game, and his special teams (the punt block) instead of ramming the ball down T's throat in the first half. In other words, I think X toyed with T a little, much like teams do in a scrimmage.

I have always respected your opinion, but this one makes no sense....In Ohio, they can not afford to "play" with KY teams, as it still effects their Harbin ratings. X needed to dismantle us, which they eventually did. They certainly weren't interested in being two scores behind to us, even if they overcame that. Awesome game by X, but after hearing "first hand" multiple accounts of this game, X wasn't "toying" with anything. With this season, they can not afford to.

Did he toy with them on defense?

I don't think so, I just think X had trouble stopping Trinity because T's passing game is top shelf.

How many of your first hand accounts were from Trinity fans and how many of them are from objective third parties?

My first hand accounts were there....and of course, "post game" it would be convenient to have played us a scrimmage, but at 24-13, that's not comfortable, reagardless who you are playing, let alone KY's #1 offensive power.

Again, T made X pay with the two quick touchdowns at the end of the first half. In other words, X wasn't able to toy with T because T was too good for it. However, unlike CardinalsFan, I thought the game was in jeopardy when T executed a perfect pass in the middle of the field to make it 24-13. I really thought at that point X was in trouble.

Now this had to hurt...

I just "hate" that we were some tipped balls away from giving them absolute fits for 48.....I certainly think (while no real consolation), that we are by far the best team Cincy X has played to date.

Last two from me... I have a ton of pictures to process..

I really do look at it as X was playing with fire.

When gametime posts the link to the interview with Coach Specht he says in so many words they were practicing their two minute drill, only he calls it bad coaching.

RP, I had the same talk we are having now with several people at halftime of the game about X, Harbin points, bad coaching decisions, etc.

Any informed and objective fan will tell you that X was clearly working on their passing game in the first half.

^ I can try to understand an "objective" fan's point of view....and of course it will "sound" covenient to downplay us...but in regards to the Commonwealth, what say you 'Ru? Do we reign supreme?

Hard to believe X is still fighting for national #1 with Darius Ashley on the sideline. From everything I'm told he's going to be a big name in Lousiville soon enough...

No question, T is the Class of the Commonwealth.

So how different would this game have been had Ashley been playing?

Personally, I think very different. Like Guru said, it was obvious that X was very pass happy in the first half which is very, very unlike them. If Ashley is healthy and plays, those 3-5 yard runs by Romeo and Berning are 5-10+ yard plays by Ashley. He NEVER goes down on first contact and is quite shifty.

Which, BTW, leads me to the following conclusion. Why would St. Xavier feel the need to play with fire and work on the passing game if Ashley is getting better and is going to be back in a week? Is it possible that Ashley ISN'T getting any better and he could be out for much longer than anyone has led on??? :scared: :scared:

I can confirm that one. He did indeed mention that during the halftime discussion.
