No more KY/TN game, East/West game to start in 2008

This is a press release:

The 3rd longest (24 years) intra state all star football game in the USA between the states of Kentucky and Tennessee has come to an end. The series ended with Tennessee ahead 15-9 but Kentucky had won six out of the last 8 games. This series was started in 1984 and it replaced the East-West all star game that ended in 1982. No all star game was played in 1983. The Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (TACA) wanted to move the all star game to December 15th but Kentucky would not be able to get the players and coaches out of sc hool to practice whereas Tennessee schools have been given the okay to release their players and coaches to participate in the game. Kentucky offered Tennessee a 3 year deal where Kentucky would pay all of Tennessee's expenses and play the game at Westen Kentucky University but the game had to be played in June of each year. That proposal was rejected by Tennesse. The Kentucky HS Coaches Association is now moving forward with renewing the East-West all star game that will be played June 13th, 2008 at Western Kentucky University. The game will remain at Western for 3 years. "I look forward to renewing the east-west all star football game in June" said Jimmie Reed, all star game director and executive director of the Kentucky HS Coaches Association. "I am sorry that the series between Tennessee has come to an end. I did everything in my power to keep the series going and we had a tremondous proposal on the table for Tennesse to accept or reject which Tennessee rejected. I had made contact with state coaches association personeel in both Indiana and West Virgina last summer about creating an intra state all star football game with them but both states are enjoying a successful north-south game and did not want to start a new series out of state" Reed stated. "The upside to all of this is that we will have more Kentucky players and coaches invovled in the all star game. Plans are to pick 33 for each squad whereas before we had 40 players". Reed said that Western Kentucky University has welcomed the all star game with open arms and that the University and the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau are looking forward to securing the game at WKU.

Sounds like 23 more young men will get the opportunity to play one more HS game. Wish the game was a bit more centralized.

I, personally, am glad to see this. I know many people will disagree with me, but I see it as a win win situation. Firstly, more Kentucky football players will get to play in an All-Star game, and get additional college looks. Secondly, All the games will be played instate, getting more people involved in the game, making it easier for parents/fans to attend all the games, and all the money will stay in state. I hope this eventually goes to an alternating game between WKU and EKU.

I also think that this will cause more of a stir about the All-Star game. It will have more players from, possibly, more schools and regions. I see this as helping Kentucky football and getting more student/athletes in to college and playing college football.

Maybe if the interest is there they'll start rotating the sites.

Guru, do you know where the dividing line is going to be? If not do you have a speculation? I wounder if they will divide by a whole district, or by a whole county, or will they draw a line threw the center of the state.

Just wondering.

I will say when Bowling Green goes after something, they put on a good show and the people involved leave impressed. The fact WKU has made a 3-year committment tells you they want the series. Not to mention the recruiting edge with the Toppers going 1A...

Here is your answer Ram:

The initial plans are to take football districts 1-2-3-4 in all 6 classes and make that the west and then districts 5-6-7-8 and make that the east.

Thanks. I kinda figured they would divide by district.

Could you break the teams down for us?

So Beechwood guys would play for the west team while players from Campbellsville and Trinity, for example, would play for the east? That doesn't make any sense.

Another fun by-product of the six-class alignment ... ;)

Could you break the teams down for us?

I will do that right now, it will take a few minutes.
