If you would have seen the difference between Cecil and Tony during the Ryle game, you'd understand. Cecil is at a whole other level than Tony, IMO. Cecil is a dual threat QB at its finest. You never know if he is going to run or pass and he will beat you in one way or another. Tony has not fully developed his skills yet, but will be more than prepared for next season. But as of this season, Cecil is the man. As a die-hard Highlands football fan/state champ, I am getting tired of people (especially the paper last week) starting up a big stink about the QB's again (especially since Tony only completed one pass and there was a huge article on the front page), this is the last thing the team needs to be distracted about. I am glad Tony is there to give Cecil a breather since he is playing defense now, it will really help the team out. But watch them on the field, there is no debate.

Funnny thing happened at halftime. Several of the Holmes coaches gathered in a circle at halftime to discuss defensive strategy, just outside the new (don't get me started on this) visitors' locker room. Suddenly, I think they noticed me and a few of my cohorts sitting right above them, trying our best to pretend like we couldn't hear every word they were saying. Naturally, they quickly reconvened closer to the locker room...and farther from us!

I thought that Holmes played a great game tonight and that they can come away of many possitives. Most everyone was saying that this would be a total blow out and although the score might let people think that, holmes hung tough through every down. Coach Lickert has a great deal to work with and I as a birds fan can only hope that that over the next few years he gets the program to where we can all say that this is the biggest rivalry of the year. Great game Coach Lickert and good luck to the Bulldogs for the remainder of the year.

Problem is, the only time they can give their studs a blow is on special teams. It truly is just a lack of depth. Maybe as the weather cools and they get in better game shape, they'll be able to play kickoff but currently it would be impossible.

 

IMO, this will be something that Coach Lickert will take care of in the coming years. The thing he did at Dayton was turn and average kid into a good football player. He has a much better foundation to work with at Holmes. Plus, it looks like the kids have bought in and that's half (maybe more) the battle. They have improved from week to week and that's all you can ask. Hopefully they can take care of business against Dixie, CCH and Scott...

 

As for Highlands, the only thing I noticed, between chasing kids, was that it seemed like there is still a problem of holding on to the ball. Not sure who it was and I may be mistaken but I'm sure it will be taken care of. Looked pretty solid for only 4 days off between games. I'm still sore from softball two weeks ago...

Depth seems to be a perennial problem for Holmes. If Lickert can finish with a winning season, he'll encourage more kids to play.
