He won't be forced out before the end of the season. That would be a disgraceful exit for a coach who, in spite of recent disappointments, did bring Michigan their first national championship in 49 years. This is very much a Denny Crum scenario. Carr will be allowed to bow out gracefully at the end of the season. If I were Michigan's AD, I would plan to ask for Carr's resignation after Michigan's regular season ends against Ohio State on November 17 and ask him to coach Michigan in their bowl game. That way, the coaching search can begin in late November and hopefully be wrapped up before too much damage has been done to recruiting efforts. And Carr will have a chance to end his UM tenure on a positive note.

I have one question.

 

I was watching ESPN and some talking heads who were saying it was time for Lloyd to go. In fact the one "expert" head said: "There have been problems at Michigan for a while. Sure they win 8 or 9 games a year but everyone knows that there are real problems that Carr can't fix."

 

Now I hope I'm not too of topic here but why is it okay for the media to say this about Michigan football and Carr and no one screams bloody murder about the great record and wonderful job Carr has done? Nobody is screaming at the unrealistic expectations of the Wolverine fans. Everyone from Dickie V to other sports reporters ridiculed KY fans for the same situation with Tubby.

 

Where is the indignation at Michigan fans? :confused:

Because regular season losses in basketball are pretty much meaningless, where in football you lose one, and your season's over.

True. In college basketball someone someone like Kentucky could get beat by a non ranked team and fall back 5-8 spots in the rankings. But in football if a top 10 team gets beat by a non ranked team they fall back to the 20's or out of the top 25.

I agree about regular season losses. But I do see a little different treatment between UK fans who are criticized for high expectations and Michigan fans who are not. At the end of the day, neither program has lived up to its traditional level of achievement for about ten years. Difference is, the Kentucky fans were criticized for being unhappy about it while Michigan fans voiced their dissatisfaction without that criticism.

I think it's because football is a much more thankless pressure filled coaching job. One loss knocks you out of contention, whereas in basketball losses don't matter much in regular season. Also Michigan fans haven't stooped to the low levels of UK basketball fans, at least not that I know of.

While I do think this is Lloyd's last year (and would have been regardless of outcome) the idea of running him out during the season is a bit far fetched.

 

Really, it's not like you see a ton of college coaches getting canned during the regular season, and the ones who do aren't guys who have won a NC and have been somewhat sucessful over a long period of time at that school. Especially when they still have every opportunity in the world to win a Big 10 championship.

I have a buddy who lives just outside of Detroit and he says that the Michigan fans are pretty upset with the way their program is heading. He went to Morehead State and was around during the last couple years of Tubby's reign and he compared the Michigan fans to the way the UK fans were behaving. So I think the fans up in Michigan are the same, we just don't get a first hand view of it.

Lloyd Carr needs to jump out of the plane and pull Bobby Bowden with him...

This kind of over reaction is exactly what ruins seasons for teams, not their coaches, but their fans and media. To say after a loss to any team a coach should be fired is absurd, ludacrus actually.

Wow, Michigan loses at home and we've already thrown Coach Carr under the bus and out of the plane.

No.. UK/Vandy beating UGA happen. A 1-AA team (no matter how good) beating the #5 ranked team doesn't happen.
