No disrespect for Carr, yet the Michigan program is where its at. Not going forward and certianly moving backwards after Apple State. I hate to see anyone loose their job, but it is in the best interest of ALL (coaches, players, school, alumni etc.) that Carr resign immediately or be let go. Place one of the assistants as an interm coach and suffer through the season. Its already ruined..... Build towards next year and get the coach you want. I understand one game does not make a season, well, being the team that is upset in the "greatest upset of all time" will ring in Ann Arbor and everywhere south for the next 5 years....... It is truly the sign of the end. Change must occur. If not now, when???? Just wonder how many empty seats will be at the Big House at next home game???? Its been a great run of Michigan football for the last 25 years with coach Bo and company. Time to turn the page because UM football is cracking at the seams and needs an overhaul...... Go Big Blue.....

No.. UK/Vandy beating UGA happen. A 1-AA team (no matter how good) beating the #5 ranked team doesn't happen.

I'm talking about upsets and not rankings. Appy State is a very good 1AA team and obviously, Michigan has some serious weaknesses.

 

Rankings this early, are based off last year and the prophets.

Wow, Michigan loses at home and we've already thrown Coach Carr under the bus and out of the plane.

Well, I suspect a lot of people are like me. Michigan needs a better coach. I've thought that for several years. All the App State game has done is bring it all to a boil...

 

Here are the scenarios...

 

1. Michigan rights the ship, runs the table and wins the Big Ten (Carr saves his job)

2. Michigan has a decent season (record-wise), but loses to OSU again and likely their bowl opponent (Carr is gone at season's end)

3. Michigan completely bombs (Carr doesn't make it through the season)

 

 

I'll take #2, personally. I think Michigan will bounce back and get a few decent wins and have a fair season, but they won't beat OSU, they'll likely lose another game or two, they won't win the Big Ten and they probably won't win their bowl game.

 

Anything below 11 wins this season, including the bowl game, and I seriously doubt that Carr saves his job...it's possible with a win over Ohio State in that scenario.

You bring up a very interesting and accurate statement, for some programs....

I doubt that Carr looses his job mid season, but at the end I look for him to leave under pressure.

The elite programs, yes. I have no problem with it...I grouped Tubby, Lloyd, Fulmer and Coker in the same group...two are gone, one is on the brink, and I wouldn't be surprised if Fulmer's days are numbered. Whether these guys are good coaches is irrelevant. The fact is, they either aren't/weren't good enough for the position, or they just couldn't handle the other things that come with running an elite program.

 

I've been saying those teams needed to make changes for some time...again, I have no problem with it and I have no pity for the guys involved.

 

1) They know full well what comes with the territory.

 

2) They made more money in one season coaching at those schools than I'll probably make in my lifetime.

 

Forgive me if I don't feel sorry for any coach that couldn't/can't meet the expectations that he knew existed when he took the job, and became a multi-millionaire in the process.

Carr is 6th among active Division I-A football coach with a .758 winning percentage. He has compiled a 113-36 overall record as head coach and has led the Wolverines to six 10-win seasons and a 75-21 Big Ten Conference mark.

Everything is fine, except the performance in the biggest games...vs. Ohio State and the bowl games, as you noted...especially in recent years.

 

They've been owned by Ohio State, and when they do have a good year and crack the Rose Bowl, Southern Cal makes them look sick. That really has to irk Wolverine fans...

 

...also, give him credit for the '97 season, but he can be thankful that was pre-BCS, because only the most maize and blue blinded fan thinks Michigan could have beat Nebraska that year. I think it would have taken a miracle for Michigan to keep a loss against Nebraska in single digits.

The fact is, all those guys numbers look good...Carr, Tubby, Coker, Fulmer...but people who pay attention can see those programs aren't reaching their potential and aren't going in the right direction. Put anyone at an elite program that's in pretty good shape when they take over and their winning percentage is going to be among the best.

Also to consider he is 6-6 against OSU but has only beat Tressel once in the last 6 years. Likewise Coooper was 2-10-1 against Michigan and that is what cost him his job at OSU.

Very good point on Cooper. So one could surmise, that Michigan is interested in Championships and not about revenue, since their is always 100,000± in attendance at home games. That is, if Carr is truly on the hot seat.

If you have Hart, Henne, and Manningham coming back, playing a D-1AA team in the Big House, and you lose...it falls to the coaching staff for not having the team ready to play, IMO. This is one of the most shameful and embarressing losses in the history of college football, if not all major sports. I say Carr has to go.

True. But those three all had good games. Michigans D didn't have a very good game at all. IMO for Carr to keep his job he has to win out, go 11-1, with a win over Ohio State and maybe get a BCS bid, and WIN, then I say he saves his job. But if Michigans D lets App State do that to them, then I am sure Penn State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State will hurt Michigan.

Henne played a large roll in the loss, he made some crucial mistakes at key times. That stood out to me when I watched the replay last night. Overall you are correct though

 

You all that think UK fans take a hit for their antics over Tubby are jumping the gun on Carr. The loss that set this in motion just occurred Saturday. If they continue their antics as UK fans did for a extended time with Carr preforming well they will get similar treatment. Carr atleast still has a season in front of him to try and silence the critics, Tubby didnt silence his and well the rest was history
