How will the Privates endure the financial backlash from the loss of Bourbon Co. gate revenue?
Start drinking more water and cut out the Bourbon. That will teach them to boycott the Catholics .

Don't forget I am sure this goes into track meets too. Trust me you are going to be seeing more of this coming out. Whether you agree or disagree the extremes at both ends (public and private) are causing the problem. Most of us are in the middle........but keep in mind coaches in the public schools have to do what they are told by their administration regardless of how they feel about the issue. And no coaches are not going to quit they do have families to feed.

So........what has to happen is

1. the KHSAA has to punish people both private and public

2. both the extremes on the private and public sides need to come back towards the middle

Now understand schools have the right to schedule who they want. If I don't want to play certain school or schools I have the right to not schedule them.

Some would say me not playing a team because the coach runs up the score is childish. That I should work harder and get better and compete (sound familiar) against that team rather than expect her to call the dogs off.

I cannot speak for Bourbon on why they made that call.

But schools ALL THE TIME, pick and choose who they are going to play against for a variety of reasons. This is just one of the possible reasons.

Picking and choosing who you play is completely different than boycotting private schools. It's weak, period...

I think you'd be surprised. You know coaching doesn't pay the bills...

Picking and choosing to not play the private schools is different from picking and choosing to not play other schools, how?

It is every school's right to pick and choose whomever they play. That should be inarguable.

What you and the others are arguing, you disagree with the fbasis of their choice to not play the private schools. Just like I have heard the argument that I should learn to compete better instead of choosing to not play the team that is pressing, up 20 with 2 minutes left and the starters still in.

But they have every right to pick and choose whom they play.

If Bourbon wants to boycott private schools, let them do it. If it hurts their program in the long run, consider it a self-inflicted wound.

Picking and choosing to not play the private schools is different from picking and choosing to not play other schools, how?

The picking and choosing is the same. The validity is different. It's a valid concern if you don't schedule a team because you just can not compete. It's a valid concern if you don't schedule a team because you feel they are classless. However, it's chicken crap and a mass generalization to admittingly not schedule private schools because they 'cheat' (for lack of a better term).

You can tell your kids that you aren't playing a team because they're classless and you don't want to get them hurt or you don't want them to be demoralized. You can tell your kids that, as a small school, you can't regularly compete with a school the size of Ryle. What do you tell them about private schools? IMO, which doesn't seem like a popular one, is that it's a cop out and tells kids that you don't think they can compete with other kids their age. Sorry, that's just how I feel and that's not a message I want to convey to my kids...

I would totally understand any boycott if the school doing the boycotting would man-up and include district, region, and other post season play in their boycott.

If you have principles stick to them. If you don't, then you are just hurting your own students.

You are correct. You are gonna see much more of this right or wrong. I have already heard alot about it in Southern Kentucky( Wilson Sears country:D ).

One thing the private supporters are failing to see is that this is not a issue that is not going to go away. I am not saying the private school supporters are wrong, I am just saying this is something that you are gonna have to deal with and if both sides dont come to a agreement on these issues, then you are going to eventually see a seperation.

If the KHSAA does not do something soon, then watch for the KHSAA board to be eliminated, one by one. There is alot of talk about that already.

Its not just talk, its happening. And at some point, the public school superintendents are going to push that too far and the State Board of Education is going to step in and totally eliminate the schools election of BOC members. As Senator Roeding made it perfectly (and correctly) clear, the KHSAA does not belong to the schools; it is a creation of statute passed by the legislature. Thus the State "owns" the KHSAA, not the schools and the sooner superintendents figure that out, the better off they will be. If they don't figure it out (and soon), they may end up totally removed from having the ability to elect any people to the BOC.

Where did it say that Bourbon is not playing the private schools for the bolded reason?
