They have 7 away games.

I'm wondering if Bell might try to hold the score down a little this year, maybe sub a little earlier than most would. It's getting very hard for them to get games, especially at home.

Interesting comment. Surely that is not the mindset of the teams around this region. Schedule a team that will not beat you? Bell schedules teams every year that they believe might beat them, but better prepare them for the playoffs. Rockcastle and other strong programs do the same. It is a shame that teams won't play Bell for those reasons. In recent years the middleschool program has had games cancelled right and left only hours before scheduled, due to fact that Bell was winning by too much over teams the week before! Most times it was after parents and fans had travelled to their place and spent money for their concessions and to support their program. They would not return the favor and Bell's boosters were left without revenue for those games. Not a real good way to approach kids sports. What are we teaching them? Shall we take our ball and go home if we don't get our way. I guarantee you that those programs would NOT have cancelled those games if Bell had been beaten badly the first game!

I have been to a lot of Bell Co. football games and I do not believe they try to run the score up in any way. But they do work on things to improve the team. Its like the other night vs. Lincoln Co. In the 4th qtr the team racked up a lot of yards and they were basically trying to get their 3rd string back some reps. I don't even know if Bell scored in the 4th qtr.

As for Middlesboro and Corbin, I believe Bell only blew Corbin out once and that was 49-14. I dont believe Bell scored in the 4th qtr of that one. And as for Mboro, they stack the line so if you get by the line of scrimmage there is a good chance of going the distance. So Bell has had some lopsided wins over them.

I wasn't suggesting that they do. I was just pointing out their dilemma.

I heard Whitley moved the ball well in the Middlesboro game but had problems with ball security. Having seen Bell in scrimmages, if this continues to be a problem, Bell will run away with this one.

Last week vs. Lincoln Co., The Bobcats running game was in full stride. How will Whitley defend the run? Kyle Nelson can throw the ball effectively. How is Whitley's pass defense. Special Teams came up big for Bell as well. How does the Whitley special teams match up against Bell's kicking and return game?

Coach Black is my man but he is in over his head in this one. Dudley's bunch is primed and ready to go. Bell may be the best team in Eastern Kentucky.

The boys from fog mountain handle Whitley Co. rather easily

Bell Co. played a Lincoln Co. team that did not have the backs that they had last year...... The two backs was pretty dang good.... If Lincoln completes the passes that were obviously wide open the game would have not been so lop sided........ But that is my opinion..

Whitley Co. 21 Bell Co. 17

Whitley hangs onto the football in this one.....:fight:

I think Bell droped some passes that would have been TD's as well. Every team has some mistakes early, same as Whitley did and m'boro as well fumbling at the 3 setting up a Whitley TD. Par for the course in August.

Rock has got jipped on some home games in the past as well, don't know if it is the same reason, but who knows.

What Bell County has that most teams do not have is a kicker who can keep teams backed way up. I would guess that Lincoln's average starting posession was their own 20. they had one posession that start inside Bell's 50 yard line due to a penalty. Bell's Kicker is will keep plenty of teams backed up!

Bell's all-state kicker, Monte Merrick (Class of 2009) had a FG; 4-4 PAT's. He had 5-6 kickoffs sail out of endzone for touchbacks. His only punt pinned Lincoln inside the ten yard line. Most interesting stat: Lincoln had 0 return yardage...in fact, Lincoln never touched the ball on six kickoffs and one punt.

Is this kid related to the Merrick brothers that kicked for Marshall in the early 90's?
