It must be a big issue, Beshear is leading every poll there is and legalized gambling is his platform. I look for the polls to change over the next few weeks though. Don't you?

No. To win, Fletcher must do well in heavily Catholic Northern Kentucky and among the Catholics in Jefferson County. I just got a copy of the financial report from our summer picnic. Among the biggest money earners were the gambling booth, the mini-bingo, the capital prize chances, split the pot and the beer booth. I don't look for anti-gambling to be a big plus.

One is the sport of kings, the other is the sport of trailer parks.

I voted for Fletcher in the primary but his one issue campaign has done nothing but make me mad. In reality he is saying we are not smart enough to make the decision about casinos by having a vote. His commercials are gross distortions and out and out lies. I expect him to blame the casinos for global warming. We go to casinos when we travel and every community that has one seems to have been improved by it. I am not aware of any town where the locals have tried to get rid of their casino. I may not vote for Steve but I will not vote for Fletcher.

While not anything like a casino, Maysville has had an OTB for several years now; and the gloom and doom that was forecast my some didn't materialize.

Everything you've said here is exactly right. This issue is big in NKY, and I think most of us support Beshear's position on it. Fletcher just isn't giving me any reason to want to vote for him. And I usually vote Republican.

But have you seen any benefit? In the past few years both Corbin and Pineville have gotten them and while I'm not opposed to them, if there has been a benefit, I haven't seen it.

One of the new lines coming from the Fletcher campaign is (not verbatim) "Beshear wants to bring gambling to Kentucky, and he will," despite it being a much larger process than simply winning an election, and by no means a guarantee. This sounds like something that should have come out of the Beshear campaign.

 

This election will be a lot closer than the 20% disparity the polls indicate right now, but I don't see Fletcher ever pulling ahead. I think his insistence on being the anti-gambling guy is probably going to cost him the extra-push he is going to need to win.
