NKY boycott of private schools?

Featured Replies

These idiots are making the case stronger and stronger for me to send my kids (whenever that is) to private schools.

I'm guessing NC would be a target of Lloyd. Hopefully that means NC and CCH can play extra games in all sports.

Would Lloyd boycott Beechwood since they "occasionally" have players from out of district?

At least in my time there Lloyd allowed students out of district to pay a small tuition with no problem. I wonder if that has changed...

As I've said before , the only system in NKY that has a legit hardline stance on enrollment is Boone County. Their only exception is that employees' kids can attend the school if they're from outside the boundaries.

Every other system seems to be "flexible."

So in the "real world," as it is often and mistakenly pointed out that leveling of playing fields does't occur, do those organizing the boycotts inform the businesses as they are organizing the boycotts that they are putting together a boycott?

I have never participating in a boycott to my knowledge, so I don't know. I would assume for maximum impact, you would have the boycott fully organized and then inform the person/business/thing that you are boycotting.

Not that it really matters...but that is kind of the point of the boycot...to pressure the boycot-ee to change their position...most business type boycots begin with informing the public that this and such will happen if we don't get what we want...one doesn't 'organize' or prepare the results as the outcry of support for the boycot-er and their geniune commitment to follow thru with their stated threat will hopefully get the desired result.

I think the feeling of 'sneaking' is that based upon living and working in the same community with said individual and not hearing any publicly stated opinion to date...

Anyway, it's just a shame all the way around. I still have not heard any clearly stated goal...or desired result. The frequently repeated 'even playing field' is the best I have heard along with a fervent defense of the idea that it's NOT about winning more. (Which leads me to believe more and more that is more personal and emotional for the leaders as opposed to improving our educational system.)

At the risk of being redundant, can't we see that we are trying to legislate something that is subjective, unquantifiable, and unenforceable. It is really like telling eveyone not to shop or trade or do business with a certain group, company, whatever. If that group/company/school brings value to people, they are going to patronize them...if they are cheaters or they bring no added value to one's life, people will choose otherwise. (BTW, I am talking about both private and the 'more-commonly-desired' publics also.) Do we really think that the privates or the publics that attract kids are going to lose kids because of separation? No one chooses the private or desired out of district public to win a championship, there are all sorts of family value reasons...but it's not about winning, so that's a mute point.

It's a matter of time before these groups are split...it's a matter of time before there's another outcry within the split for similar reasons....the wrong kids will suffer the most.

Lloyd has had ongoing issues with SHDHS and I'm sure their support of Prop 20 is a result of that. I guess the Sander wants all of his athletic teams to withdraw from the conference as well. I also assume that the Juggernaut track team (which has consistently been their best performing program) will withdraw from most of the competitive invitationals.

This approach is ridiculous and I would see no other NKY schools following this lead.

Thanks for the information. As I said, never having been a part of a boycott, didn't really know how it worked.

I think if Lloyd and any other schools that want to participate in a boycott want to be consistent they would need to boycott Independent school districts.

I have also heard Ludlow could be on the bandwagon with Lloyd and the Boone County schools. If so, someone at Ludlow needs to look long and hard into the mirror.

Actually, they normally do inform the entity they are going to boycott. They do this right after they have informed the media so that they can get coverage. Of course, sometimes they let the media inform the company they are going to boycott.

I've been saying this for years.

Independent school districts, in actuality, have more freedom and funding than Private schools. They get the best of both worlds.

I'm truly having difficulty understanding this thing...and I'm truly trying to see it....but,

If a child lives in, say Erlanger Lloyd's school system, but chooses to go to St Henry or CCH or whatever; and then the private schools are separated from the publics in athletic competition; what is the desired result?

A) to pursuade that kid to change his/her mind and go to Lloyd?

B) to improve self esteem in the kids at Lloyd because their winning percentage goes up whatever percentage their former private schedule was of their total schedule?

C) to increase Lloyd's chance of going further in various post season events? (somewhat tied to 'B' I guess)

D) to simply punish the kid who did not choose the school that had 'rights' to them?

E) other?

I'm genuinely not being rhetorical, what is the answer?

Okay that might be the most uniformed statement I have ever ready. 98 I do not agree with the boycott but independent schools are bound by the same boundaries as a county school. Now all public schools can accept out of district students if they have a contract with the residing district and charge tuition. Some independents take more out of district students than others just like some county districts do. There is no "best of both worlds." And facts bear that out. I usually agree with most of your posts but this is way off base. Ask indepdendent districts such as Dayton, Bellevue, Newport, Ludlow, Silver Grove, etc how many out of districts students they have. Not many if any. And for a fact most of these are employees kids which is an unwritten agreement amongst public school districts. The fact that some public schools (independent and county) do not check the addresses students give and look the other way when a good athlete pops up with an address in their district doesn't mean most independents do this. It is the same as saying all private schools recruit and cheat. Neither statement is true.

I think you're confused on who the uninformed person here is.

Independent school districts are not always bound by the "same boundaries" as you put it as public schools.

The school districts themselves set these boundaries, they can make them whatever they want. They do not have to have any boundaries. If the Boone County School district wanted open enrollment, bam ,they have it. It's not up to the KHSAA, or the state BOE.

If I live anywhere in Louisville, I could attend any school I wanted in that city, but not in Florence, why is that? b/c the guidelines, or "boundaries" as you put it are made by each district.

Okay follow me here. I live in Bellevue. Could I go to Boone County? No.

Could I go to Beechwood, or Highlands, or Silver Grove, or Ludlow? Absolutely, I'd have to pay tuition, but I could still go.

Do Beechwood or Highlands or Ludlow get less money from the state than Boone County? No.

Best of both worlds? Yes. They can accept students from litrerally anywhere, (i.e, a private school) and still get the same money from the state that any other public school gets.

First the district you live in has to release you to the district you want to go to and then you have to be accepted. This is for all public district. Yes you could go to Kenton, Campbell, Boone, Grant, Bracken IF you are released to do so.........Living in Bellevue doesn't mean you can go to any independent district. You are giving out bad info. Please stop. I am very well versed in the legal aspects of public schools and residency issues.

Here is my example. If I live in Newport and work in Pendleton I can take my kids there if Newport agrees. If I live in Dayton and want to go to Bellevue Dayton will not release me! I can give a false address and hope I don't get caught.
