NKY boycott of private schools?

Featured Replies

First the district you live in has to release you to the district you want to go to and then you have to be accepted. This is for all public district. Yes you could go to Kenton, Campbell, Boone, Grant, Bracken IF you are released to do so.........Living in Bellevue doesn't mean you can go to any independent district. You are giving out bad info. Please stop. I am very well versed in the legal aspects of public schools and residency issues.
So Jared Lorenzen had to get a special waiver from Scott High School to go to Highlands?

Only releasing in the state ADA money. You can go if you want with or without the release of the district you live in.

Exactly, you can go, if you want.

Your district may not like it, (but they can't stop you) but that is why the other incoming district charges tuition most times, to compensate.

So Jared Lorenzen had to get a special waiver from Scott High School to go to Highlands?

And Derek Smith from Silver Grove.

What did you mean by this....

Do Beechwood or Highlands or Ludlow get less money from the state than Boone County? No.

Only that independent school districts have the same opputrunity to get state money as any other public school district.

I really don't think I am.

The following is an assumption on my part:

Regardless of where I live, I can go to another school if that school accepts ot of district students. The fact that the school district where I live might not officially release me cannot bind me to that district. There may be schools that I cannot go to but I am in no way bound to a particular district.

Correct?

I don't think this applies. I'm pretty sure that Joe had a residence in Ft T.

Here is my example. If I live in Newport and work in Pendleton I can take my kids there if Newport agrees. If I live in Dayton and want to go to Bellevue Dayton will not release me! I can give a false address and hope I don't get caught.

Only way Newport figures into your equation is Pendleton receiving the ADA money. If they don't, then you would have to pay tuition to Pendleton. Whether you come to Pendleton or not while NOT living in Pendleton, is totally Pendleton's decision and then yours if you are required to pay tuition.

Correct?

that's the way I have ALWAYS understood it.

Like ladiesbballcoach said, the release probably has something to do with the incoming district being able to collect money from the state for you.

And like I said, I doubt this waiver is granted very often, which would be the reasoning for the tuition, to compensate for the school not being funded for you being there.

NOT from kids living outside their district.

You live in Newport and Newport is the ONLY school that can get funding for you UNLESS Newport AGREES to let the ADA money for you go somewhere else.

Okay, we'll just use the Derrick Smith example then. Either way I think we've figured out that that was not true. :thumb:

Right, aside from tuition students though, there is no difference.

That's what I meant by best of both worlds. They have the ability to "recruit", if you will, not that they do. But still get the funding that some private schools dream about getting.

To be fair, Derek's mom worked at Highlands and Jarod's Dad remarried and lived in Ft. Thomas with his wife and her children.
