Eagles Release Trotter

Featured Replies

Four-time Pro Bowl middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter will be job-hunting in the coming days after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.

A nine-year veteran, Trotter was informed of his status in a meeting with coach Andy Reid. The Eagles suggested that the now-unrestricted free agent consider retirement, but the 30-year-old's preference is to continue playing in the league. Trotter's release will become official when his name appears on the NFL's internal transactions wire this afternoon.

"Jeremiah is one of my favorite guys," Reid said in a statement Tuesday. "There's no question that this is the toughest part of this job. He and I met about this [Monday] night and it was very emotional for the both of us. Jeremiah and I have been together for many years and he's played a vital role in helping this team win a lot of football games."

Think his career is over???

What was the purpose of releasing him?

JMO, but Reid and Trotter aren't exactly best friends. Plus the Eagles now have Takeo Spikes to play MLB.

Is the $$$ a factor that'd keep the Bengals from inquiry? I'd think he'd be a significant upgrade.

Through history, Trotter is either hit or miss.

If Cincy is planning on having a pressing defense with a lot of blitzes and it does not require a lot of reading of defenses, then he is a good fit. Philly originally released him because of money and out of control playing style. In Washington he improved under Gregg Williams and it showed on the field when returning to Philly.

Agreed. Im no Philly fan but I enjoyed watching him and Dhani Jones crush people. Trotter would really be helpful, provided Cincy lands him. (Knock on Wood)

Trotter is a fine player but his knees have been a mess for a few years now. I saw a segment about him 2 years ago, and he usually can't even get around until mid week.

Would you still sign him?

If the money was right and he could pass a physical I might take a flyer.

On the field? No, I do not.

However, I do see him as a good emotional leader on the field - which counts for a lot, imo. He might be a good shot of adrenaline for a team like Cincy looking for a defensive identity.
