Blessed Sacrament Reds(1965-1974?) was the best Knothole team to ever play in NKY. They only lost 22 games in those yrs. Coached by the best ever, Joe Macke(HC) w/asst Bob Wessleman and Earl List

 

The Master Jewelers/Little Caesars team that won 3 City Titles (D2, B2, A2) in the late 80s and early 90s is the best Knothole team ever...

 

The Ludlow Hungrydogs has to be up there with some of the greatest Knothole teams of all time, and probably was the team of the 90's. From 1991 to 2000 we won the district every single year, including A1 while playing against A2 teams. We won numerous of big tournaments throughout the area, and also got invited to play in other big tournaments in other states. I will have the exact record put on here later, when I look at my framed jersey we all got that has our all-time record on their as well...:thumb:

 

Im sure if you any of you all know Dave Epplen the chief of the umpires he would remember our team because he usually always the ump for alot of the big games we played in. We were coached by great coaches in Ron Williamson (HC), Mike Clary, Tom Lantry, Rick Shackelford, and Rob Arnold.

Sadly no. Just runner-ups. That was the one tournament that we never could quite win, even though we won other tournaments with better teams in it. It was pretty much one pitcher who always beat us and that was David Norris. He threw harder back in knothole than just about any pitcher I ever faced in high school. We only beat him one time ever. Every year he switched teams and was on a different team and every time for the city tournament it was him whatever new team he was on that would get us. We were one of the only teams what were in that city tournament every single time from nky, yet whatever team he landed on for that year would make it to and would get us becuase we couldn't hit him...So that is the one thing we were always disappointed about because even though we won bigger tournaments with alot of better teams, we wanted to win that one because you get more recognition and heard of more when you win that...:cry:

Ok, I remember you guys now. I used to date a girl back then who had a nephew that played for TRansfer Station and I went to a few games and remember Stegman being a big rival of TS.

Yes, he was. My Dad, who was our manager, and Walt respected each other very much. It was sad to watch as his health failed. His heart was always in the right place.

Lees Famous Recipe had Nick Partin and as a knotholler, man could he hit. I umpired a game that they were playing and the bases were loaded up at Hilltop. The score was a million to one. He told me exactly where he was going to hit it out, and hit it out to that exact spot. I swear on anything that that story is true. I was absolutely amazed.

Bellevue Dariy Freeze-Tom Fowler, Rick Atkins, Greg Parrott are a few from the past. They were always on top every year that i remeber. And man could they play some ball. I know i am not remeber more.

Im possible to have 7 trips to the city tournament man, because you can only make it during the 2nd year of each league, until you get to A ball. The most you could have made it was 5... D2, C2,B2, and both years in A league...

Back in the dark ages when I played, there was no distinction between first year and second year teams. D was D and A was A and that was that. You competed with everyone.
