Back in the dark ages when I played, there was no distinction between first year and second year teams. D was D and A was A and that was that. You competed with everyone.

We had distinctions but if you beat the 2nd year teams you could definitely go to the city tournament still.

Way back "in the day"...Interlake Steel dominated the knothole ranks. Pitzers Pavers was another bigee!

The Bellevue Vets Hurricanes made it to the City Tournament in all three years they played together. In fact, they made it to the Regional Finals this year as a C1 team.

Lees Famous Recipe had Nick Partin and as a knotholler, man could he hit. I umpired a game that they were playing and the bases were loaded up at Hilltop. The score was a million to one. He told me exactly where he was going to hit it out, and hit it out to that exact spot. I swear on anything that that story is true. I was absolutely amazed.

 

I played on that team and man was he good and that really happened! But our whole team was solid, we went to the city(never won the whole thing) but came out of KY in D2, C2, B1, B2, A1, & A2. Lots of good players from Bellevue, Newport and Fort Thomas. Had the biggest coach in all of knothole in Dickie Boothe Sr. (about 6'6" 260)

My memory is a little fuzzy, so I don't remember how far they went, or many of the players...(somebody can help me?) but my era of "C" and "B" league in NK faced an outstanding Erlanger Lions team year in and out...I think Odom coached, and I remember his son(s) along with maybe Greg Kunkel, Steve Molitor and others. They were intimidating to the rest of us 13 year olds and it seems they won a lot! They may have gone under Otto Printing at a time, or I may have the entire thing screwed up? I do know, they were several steps above the rest of us for a time. I ripped a deep line drive for an out against them and my team just about carried me off the field as it was as close to a hit as we got.

He was good at NKU when he got drafted, too bad he can't play in that league after this year because he will turn 28 before next season begins. Maybe he will get picked up by a big club.

What about Wilson Auto back in the late 80's? Todd Novak was a pretty good hurler in the mid 80's, I think he played for Wilson. He was a Lloyd grad in 87 I think.
