I know I'm in the minority and may be a little bias but I've watched Renteria all season and he's come up with clutch hit after clutch hit while providing great defense. IMO the only thing that seperates Renteria from the rest of the NL shortstop's is that they are lightning fast while Renteria isn't. Other than that I see no difference in their style of play which makes me pick Renteria over the others because of his ability to come through under pressure, I like clutch hitters, I think they are in a league of their own when they can consistently come through when the team needs them too. A little biased obviously doesn't cover it. You take Renteria while the rest of the free world sees how great Reyes is.

July 31, 200719 yr I think this was a good deal for the Braves. I think they will now make the playoffs and hopefully make some noise. I feel bad for Julio Franco. He finally got some playing time and has batted .333 during the past 7 games - only to be back on the bench soon.
July 31, 200719 yr I think it is a good trade for the Braves. Giving up C-Jarrod Saltalamachia was tough but he was stuck behind McCann. PLus you never know how a prospect is going to turn out. How many can't miss prospects have missed? There have been plenty.

The braves will have him next year as well. Again you never know how a prospect will pan out. Most prospects never make it to the majors. For every Doyle Alexander/John Smoltz deal there are dozens others that those prospects never make it.

Feliz has been wowing them --- at Danville. Doesn't mean squat. Matt Harrison is the only possible loss for the Braves, and his spot in this trade depends on the health of his shoulder; realistically, the most the Braves have lost is a #3 starter.

July 31, 200719 yr Now Salty is no big deal to lose? Funny... He's been in the majors long enough that I can't call him a prospect anymore. A rookie caught in a traffic jam who doesn't yet have the requisite skills at first base. Lots of upside, no longer a prospect. Teixeira is under contract for 2008. He is arbitration-eligible after this year, but the contract he signed with the Rangers before the 2006 season has another full season to go on it.
July 31, 200719 yr Derek Jeter is what? He is clutch but the kids is in A ball how do we know he is clutch is Jeter a HOF'er right now? Name a non-power hitting player like Jeter in the Hall.... The rest are prospects, and the Braves decided they were expendable so I can live with it. You guys had a saying - "In Marvin we Trust" - and it got you the Bengals Bail Bonds. I say - In Atlanta I trust.
