July 30, 200719 yr I don't know about the prospects so I can't totally comment. I can say that the Braves have the worst 1B problem in the majors and they now have an All Star. I also know that they are set at Catcher for a long time with McCann. The Braves have always had pitching so I don't worry to much about them there other than reliever where I think Soriono might be the future. SS is getting old but still productive.

Reyes has 1 less error and a million stolen bases but here is what seperates some players from others. When it's close and late in the game Edgar is batting .317 while Reyes is batting .269 With the bases loaded Renteria is batting .500 while Reyes is batting .308 Renteria is a better hitter, just as good fielder and he comes up in the clutch every time.

Ladies and gentleman, here is Exhibit A of finding a stat somewhere on the page to try and convince people that what you see everyday isn't correct. There isn't a GM on the planet that would take Edgar over Jose Reyes. Not one. And if you found one that would make that deal, he'll be fired the next day. I love your loyalty but it is blinding the obvious in this case. Renteria of 5 years ago still wouldn't be as good as Reyes today, forgetting the fact that Reyes' next 10 years look nothing like Renteria's next 10 years.

I'm not claiming to be up on all of the stats, but if cshs would like to help I'm going out on a limb and saying he gets to more balls and covers a bigger area of the field w/ his quickness. I realize you're a Braves fan, but to say he's the best SS in all of baseball is a bit of a reach. I'm pointing out that I'd take him 4th in his division if I got to pick.

July 30, 200719 yr Salty could have easily been turned in to the long term answer at 1B... Yeah, in about three years. The Braves have a history of making the right trade at the right time, and I think this will be seen as one of those. And he may be from Balmer, but nobody in their right mind signs with Baltimore these days. He knows that. Absolute chaos in the front office from the owner's office right on down. Besides, although Teixiera may be from Maryland he didn't play college ball there --- he signed with another ACC school, one which is very relevant to this discussion.

July 30, 200719 yr Good move by both, Braves got rid of a couple players that may good in the future, but useless for them as they already a couple players that will or already are filling those postions, and add a big stick at first base that is very needed. Texas recieves a bunch of prospects that if pan out can be cornerstones for their organizations for a decade plus.
