July 31, 200719 yr You take Edgar I'll take Reyes. Edgar is probably the 4th best in his division. The error stat could be looked at in a few different ways. Reyes covers a lot more ground. Renteria is fifth in the NL in hitting at .333 --- I'd rather have his bat. People have taken long looks at this, and hitting really is more important than one more step in the infield.

Of course, if they would have traded and gotten back Wainwright, Marquis, and Borowski for the pitching staff, there may have been a chance. The two pro Braves posters are loyal if not knowledgeable. However, those who are critical of the trades are correct. Surely, those who rate Renteria over Reyes are merely kidding. Loyalty is fine. Lack of objectivity is not. When discussing this stuff it is much preferrable to be objective than to be a homer. It is much more likely that you will be taken seriously.

I never said Reyes wasn't better, he is a better defensive player, by how much - who knows, offensive, depends on what your team is built on, if on manufacturing runs - yes - if built the way the Braves are - no. But its not like they could have traded for Reyes. EVERY major MLB analyst has said the Braves are winners in the trade game. They gave up PROSPECTS not ready for the majors and Davies, who has struggled Big time.

McCann is a LH batcompared to Salty being a SH, so Salty has that but McCann is locked up for 6 years at a pretty good price and there is only a years difference in age and defensively is there any difference?

Plus he's looking for a 20 million deal after 08. CAN he help now? Sure. Enough to win it all? With that staff, it's highly unlikely. In the end the Braves spent a huge wad of cash and took out a 4th mortgage on the future. All that for a maybe? I guess we will know soon enough...

Just looking here - http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/atlanta-braves_15.html - it looks as if the Braves as we know it are over after this year. A LOT of contracts up in 2007. It will be interesting to see what direction they head.

I read he was going to look for around 12-15 million after 08...they lose Andruw Jones' contract after this season, so that's 13 million there, right?
