2007-08 Kentucky Basketball Schedule

Just to be clear, before anyone catches it, when saying "looking nice" I was more referring to the amount of national exposure the team is going to get this year than the fact that it's a strong schedule... Because quite frankly, it's not all that strong at all.

It looks pretty similar to most years to me. Several big names, some minnows and then the conference.

By the way, the 2K Sports Classic includes four regionals, hosted by Kentucky, along with Connecticut, Memphis and Oklahoma. I'm not sure who the Cats would play in the opening two rounds, but that's who might be waiting in Madison Square Garden.

Also, on the 50th Anniversary of the 1958 championship, I like the exhibition game with Seattle, who the Cats beat for the title that year. I wonder if there will be a recognition of some sorts, throwback jerseys, etc.?

schedule looks a little watered down compared to years past.

It is a bit, and I have no complaints about that. I assume Gillispie wants this team to have a winning mentality early on so they will carry the momentum throughout the season. He wants kids to see he can make an above average team elite so they will want to come play for him. I expect the schedules of the future to be tougher than this, but for his first year this really isn't too bad...

Those are the only 3 scheduled. You can figure on playing two of the big 3 in the 2k sports tournament. I dont feel like it is that much different from years past. Maybe the cupcakes are a little more sweet, but its still a cupcake. What are we complaining about? Stony Brook instead of Miss. Valley St.? I dont see the big difference in the schedule besides the moving of the UL game.

These were non-conference opponents last season:

Miami, Ohio

Mississippi Valley State

Maui Invitational

*DePaul

*UCLA

*Memphis

College of Charleston

North Carolina

Tennessee-Chattanooga

Indiana

Louisville

Santa Clara

Massachusetts

Eastern Kentucky

Houston

I don't see it being that much different from last year to this year. You guys want Kentucky to play top-25 teams every night and then complain if they lose. This year's team isn't a national title contender. They need some games to win to build a little confidence for what appears to be a daunting SEC this year.

Oh, and for those of you looking to knock the new coach's scheduling in favor of the old regime, Mr. Smith played Liberty at home two years ago.
