I think bi-racial children (black/white) have more problems with racial acceptance. They're often shunned by both Blacks and Whites.

 

i think that probably depends a lot on where they live. I have 1 nephew and 2 nieces that are bi-racial and they have had very good lives with very little experiences with racist issues from either race. I am not saying that these things don't happen because I am no fool, I just think the location of where you live has a lot to do with it.

What a great testimony. This is why I will advise my sons to consider not engaging in a bi-racial relationship. The world is a bad place, and you can't control what people will think and do to your children. However, if they do (strongly consider the issue), and still elect the relationship, they will have my blessing and my love.

 

Will you advise them to not engage in all bi-racial realationships or just black and white relationships? Not attacking you, I am just curious because as I stated earlier I have 1 nephew and 2 nieces that are bi-racial(half black & half white) and this topic comes up a lot.

 

 

This next statement is not a direct response to Hearsay's post. it is a general response for everyone.

 

When the topic of bi-racial relationships is brought up it is surpeising how many people that are against bi-racial relationships consider bi-racial as black and white. We have many different races in this country other than black and white: asian, middle eastern, native american, indian(from India), european and hispanic(there are more). Most people do not find it difficult to accept bi-racial relationships unless there is a black person involved. I think it is a bunch of crap. If you are against bi-racial relationships then you should be against all of them no matter the combination and if you are not and only have a problem with black and white or black and any other race relationship then you don't just disagree with bi-racial relationships, you are a racist! I have friends that have told me that they have a problem with Tiger Woods marrying a white woman. My first response is why, because he is black or because he is asian? Most of the time the asian part is never thought of. Anyway, I have no problem with people who have bi-racial relationships. However, I do agree with you hearsay. My wife and I have discussed this with our children(obviously bi-racial relationships are a part of our family tree) and we have made them aware of the problem children of bi-racial relationships can have along with problems them and their partner can have if they chose to have a bi-racial relationship. As parents who love our children we have advised them no to have bi-racial relationships because of the possible hardships that the ignorances of this country could cause them. But, like you Hearsay if they decide to have a relationship with someone who is of another race we will support them 100% and will love their partner as a member of our family. I can tell you right now that I think the WORLD of my nepew and nieces and would do anything in the world for them. I f any stupid ignorant person ever gave them a hard time because they were bi-racial or just because they are half black they would have a 6 foot 315lb former marine & football coach and most importantly their uncle raining down a world of hurt on them.

 

Remeber, "God loves all the little children, all the children of the world: red, yellow, black and white they are precious in his sight".

I have dated white, black, pacific(not sure what race/ethnicity that is considered), and mexican women. The only time I have ever experienced any negativity was when a dated a black girl. So I think most people that have a problem with bi-racial relationships have a problem with white/black not the fact that it is bi-racial.

Dating outside of your race, I thought it had to do

with the human race. My bad! Although some people do not act or seem to be part of our race.

Is Hispanic/White considered bi-racial? If so, then I not only dated outside of my race, I lived with my Mexican girlfriend, while in Mexico. However, I used to get some ribbing over it, but everyone I knew accepted her with open arms. If they didn't, I didn't care. I loved her, that's all that was important.

 

It most definitely is if you are teased, ridiculed and put down about it.

As someone that has fathered 2 bi-racial childern. I can say it is only accepted in areas that is heavy populated with each race. For example it is far more accepted in Frankfort than in Prestonsburg. I am not saying anything bad about Prestonsburg, other than the make up of the culture is majority white.

 

Basically just like any prejudice it depends on what a persons parents teaches them. If you teach you kids that everyone one is equal then they grow up accepting other races.

This is true. I have no problem with it.

It's interesting to see the variety of answers people have provided in response to this thread. I have a feeling that many of the differences of opinion with regard to this topic are due to differences in generations.

 

Personally, I cannot recall a time where someone in my generation or below has stated that they've had a problem with interracial dating (unless of course they had obvious prejudices against a particular race to begin with). However, if ever that subject comes up around my parents or aunts and uncles, they maintain that such a relationship is not good for the children.

 

I guess because I was raised in an age where bi-racial children were more common, I don't even think of it as being an issue. On the flip side, however, older generations may recall tension that surrounded bi-racial relationships in the past and assume (perhaps wrongly) that such tension continues to exist today. Just a thought...

 

By the way, I was born in 1979. It would be interesting to see which decades other people were exposed to growing up to see if it correlates with your thoughts about this topic.

There exists only one race that I care about and have ever dated within ... the HUMAN race. As long as you are dating within that race, it shouldn't even be an issue for discussion. However, I realize that with many, it still is an issue. I just hope I live to see the day when it is not.
