Notre Dame future scheduling news...

Featured Replies

 Their football program in not a part of the Big East. They are an independent, so when bowl bids come around, they only qualify for the at large bids.

When did this change?

It hasn't been more than 3-4 years ago that they got to play in either the Gator or the Outback Bowl because they got the second bid in the Big East Conference, which should have belonged to WVU.

I'll ask GT or RockPride, I'm sure they were part of the conversation and they probably remember how it went.

in basketball, ND is a member of the big east. But in football, they are independent. They can only get into a BCS bowl through an at large

I promise you they received a bid in place of a Big East team in the 2000s.

It was very contraversial, especially to WVU fans who would have had the Big East 2nd bid if Notre Dame hadn't stole it.

UofL might have been in Conference USA at the time. I'm going to do some digging.

I did some digging for you and I believe it was 2002. WVU was bumped from the Gator Bowl by ND and had to play in the Continental Tire Bowl...

so it still wasnt an automatic bid to a BCS game, right?

Who said it was???

so whats the controversy then? I thought you were saying ND received the big east bid to a bowl game as in like the auto bid to a BCS game. If ND got a bid to play in a regular bowl game ahead of a big east team.... theres no problem with that.

From '96 - '06 the Gator Bowl pitted the 2nd place ACC -vs- the 2nd place Big East...in 2007 it changed, it is now...it now has the third place ACC team vs- a team from either the Big XII, Big East, or Notre Dame...

The Outback Bowl has been SEC -vs- Big Ten since 1996...

Notre Dame played in the '99 and '03 Gator Bowls.....

Notre Dame is tied into the Big East when it comes to bowl affiliations...meaning that if Notre Dame doesn't make the Big East any bowl that is tied to the Big East is free to ask Notre Dame to come...

Wow Irish, way to step up Washington State, out of all the teams begging to play you that's a bold move, I see another BCS rout in your future.

ND has a very tough, tough schedule, through there first 8 games they may be 2-6, or maybe 3-5.
Remember Weis' first year, everyone was saying that as well.

They started 8-0.

I still think that this year will be tough for the Irish. Too many new faces on the field. But watch out in 08.

Caught some conversation on the radio this weekend that stated the 2005 recruiting class was one of the worst in ND history and will be a big hinderance in this years success. Anyone have any more info on that?

I guess it was '03 then, and that's when they knocked WVU out of playing in the Gator Bowl.

Thanks for the help!
