Red's linupe against the Cubbies tonight.

Freel cf

Keppinger ss

Griffey rf

Phillips 2b

Dunn lf

Conine 1b

Encarnacion 3b

Ross c

Arroyo p

Just keep winning series, maybe they can still get to .500

By the way, it appears the Diamondbacks have entered into the Dunn rumor-mill. Can the 31st get here any slower? Aarrgghh.

The Diamondbacks do have a loaded farm system, and could probably offer the Reds a better deal than most other teams. I would have to be blown away if I were Krivsky though.

Why can't Phillips play short until Gonzo comes back?

Really looking forward to this series, Cubs playing well, you never know what Reds team might show up. Should be fun.

With that said, I just hope the Reds play very poorly and then resume their quest for 500 Monday.

I actually prefer Canasta, but as tired as I might be I can't miss this series. With that said, the Reds will go out this weekend and play a perfect series.

Saarlos outrighted to Louisville, Victor Santos called up. Really. Santos made 5 appearances at Louisville and was 0-0 with a 1.93.

That makes sense, but I don't know why Santos was sent down in the first place.

Just as I finished typing that, I pulled his last 10 games before he was sent down. He gave up 14 earned runs, 21 hits in 20 innings. Goodness, I thought he pitched better than that.

CNN

As if the relief market isn't weak enough, word is David Weathers has been pulled off the block. His $3.1 million salary for 2008 is just too much of a bargain for Cincy to give up.

To expand on CNN's source for that report, the Newark-Star Ledger said Weathers had been pulled off the block not only because of his bargain salary, but also because the Reds front office is feeling the pressure to win next season.

My thought is, if they traded Weathers, who in the heck would close games for them? It seems like several times a week he is asked to pitched 2 innings and usually does an outstanding job.

He is one of the few guys that has been reliable all year. It is scary though to pencil him in as your closer next year already.

I'd say it has more to do with Wayne getting shown the door at the end of the year, and not wanting him to make moves that have a big effect on the future...

More from CTR:

Asked Pete Mackanin about the rotation he said it was intact until the 31st. After that he said Arroyo, Harang, Livingston, Belisle. Notice anything missing? I wouldn't expect to see Lohse in a Reds uniform again unless it's as a pinch-runner or pinch-hitter.
