cvillecat
I normally see several snakes through the hot Summer months and have a few encounters with them while I am in the woods scouting for the upcoming archery deer season but this year I have yet to see my first one. I have seen very few that have been killed along our highways. Have you had any encounters this year with the infamous "No Shoulder's"?

spindoc
I've seen more on the lakes cruising the banks than splattered on the road. I killed one behind the house. Other than that, I've probably just jinxed myself and will have one greeting me on the porch when I get home.

If there is,you better hope the boss doesn't arrive before you.
oldrambler
They will definately go to water under these conditions. Cville do you rmember being with me one night a long time ago at Greenbo when one had went to water...........and almost on top of my head/neck? :scared: If you hadn't handled that in the way you did I would have had a Copperhead clamping down on my neck and head. O.K., here is the story, Sorry if this bores others but we were fishing Greenbo one night, one of those slooooooow nights with no fish. I heard bullfrog way up in under a willow tree at the waters edge. I claimed laughing that I was not going to the house empty handed -I lay down on the front deck of the boat, pushed it up under the willow and was having cvillecat hold the light on the frog to where I was gong to reach out and catch it. All of a sudden. he (cville) says rambler....get your hand on the boat paddle and trolling motor button and push out from under this tree and whatever you do .....do not raise up. After me thinking he was kidding and finally pushing the boat out from the tree. He then put the spot light on a copperhead lying acrooss a limb and the bank right where my head was reaching for that dang frog. The only thing that we could come up with in the reason that I didn't get bit was that it was a little cool that night and the snake was stretched out to where it couldn't coil to strike. That and above all the good Lord. I then decided that unless I had a frog gig that I would leave the frog catching to the snakes.

The Professor
The only snakes I've seen this summer have been black snakes. When they were building our golf course over the past two years several copperheads were killed, but as far as I know there's only been a couple seen this year. nees1212
I've seen plenty of snakes this year. I've encountered at least one every time I cut the grass. Luckily, they've all been small and harmless, but they still scare the crap out of me.
Hasbeen
I've encountered more this year than in any year past. Fortunately, all have been harmless. They went their way, I went mine.

nees1212
Does anyone else's dog catch 'em, kill 'em, and roll in 'em? :creepy:
TheDeuce
Me and my buddies used to catch snakes when I was younger...I'll still catch them today if it means getting them away from other people.
kygirl
Does anyone else's dog catch 'em, kill 'em, and roll in 'em? :creepy: Yes, my dog does all the above except roll in them. She's quite the snake killer...so far she's done in several large black snakes. It is interesting watching her kill them. First she plays with them then bites them til they are limp then slings them. I just stay out of her way. However once they're dead she has nothing to do with 'em.
