Vaught on Micah Johnson

Featured Replies

You can still do it out of a 4-3 walk him up according to formation and you're in a 5 loaded to stop the run on that side.

I believe you discuss it, and then do whats best for the team.

:thumb: Absolutely. Give him a shot to prove himself in practice and evaluate what he does, make a decision and explain that decision to the player and explain what is expected. If the player understands the coaches decision then it's great, if he is not happy with it and transfers, wish him well and move forward.

Fletch would let you know, that I screamed that from BEFORE Day One.

I think a lot of us did.

I think you have to find a way to get your best athletes on the field at all times. I think its a glamour thing with Johnson, much like I think it is with Pulley and QB. If the kid wants to produce, he will set his pride aside and put his hand on the ground.

The funny thing about it being a glamour thing (and I'm not disagreeing with you at all, I think you may very well be right) is that great D-linemen get a lot of love, and they get a lot more money at the next level. So, not only do I think he'd be maximizing his talent at UK, but I think he'd be increasing his paycheck at the next level. Especially, if he could develop the versatility to switch between DE and OLB. That's just me though...I was really hoping he'd bulk up some and become a stud DT at UK, now I just hope he'll move to DE.

What about a possible move to fullback? Didn't he rush for over 4000 yards in only two seasons at Fort Campbell? He could be a possible change of pace back to Little, Dixon, and Smith and the type of big back that could move the chains while keeping UK's defense off the field......or help pave the way for the scat backs.

I saw Micah a month ago and he looked to have shed some pounds. I personally think he should move to DE, but get him on the field somewhere...

You dont think the coaches consider a player's wishes? I have to absolutely disagree with you. Especially when it is a kid that had offers at all these other big time colleges, they want to keep him happy b/c it is very possible he would transfer.

Very accurate post.

Micah, like many military kids, was a very mature young man coming in as a freshman. He is going to have a heck of a time keeping his weight in check to play the linebacker position. I would have to think that Micah, in his heart, knows his future is not at linebacker. It was painfully obvious during last season.

Wasn't he listed as a top 2 or 3 DT when he was a senior? I didn't think he was listed as playing LB when he was being recruited.

Braxton Kelley is in front of him and has 2 more years.

Are you telling me Brooks is afraid to make him unhappy and might lose his services as a starting MLB for one season two years from now?

He played LB, but some recruiting services were projecting him on the line, and with good reason.

I think Brooks is wanting to keep him happy for the moment, and hoping that either the light bulb comes on at LB or he will make the decision on his own to move to the line. If the decision doesnt come soon, you may see Brooks make a move.

I agree with what someone said earlier, get your best and most talented players on the field. Instead of rotting behind Kelley, if I were Micah I would make the switch to play.

Why would he even mind going to DE. He has a better shot in the NFL as a DE. DE is thinner than LB in the NFL.

He thinks he's a backer.
