July 3, 200719 yr I will have to say that if Libby was tried in the state of Kentucky he would not of served jail time. That is based on him having no prior record. So as a loyal Dem. I don't have a probelm with what Bush did for Libby. I just wished he had the guts to PARDON the men that are in jail for protecting out Boarders...... No that would be to much like the riht thing to do.
July 3, 200719 yr I am against this pardon..This is the second thing the Bush administration has done, that bothers me....after almost eight years, that's pretty darned good, IMO.
July 3, 200719 yr Bush spares Libby from 2 1/2-year prison term President leaves fine, probation intact for convicted ex-White House aide BREAKING NEWS Updated: 17 minutes ago WASHINGTON - President Bush commuted the sentence of former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby on Monday, sparing him from a 2½-year prison term that Bush said was excessive. Bush left intact a $250,000 fine and two years probation for Libby, and Bush said his action still “leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby.” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19570081/?GT1=10150 I'm glad.

July 4, 200719 yr Dubya commutes a sentence for someone whose only crime was basically taking all the heat for vp cheyney, seems totally reasonable to me. Scooter will get a job for mobile or exxon and will not have to practice law again

Scooter will get a job for mobile or exxon and will not have to practice law again  No one has been charged with any crime in the "outing" of Plame. Not Libby, not Cheney, no one. Nobody had to "take all the heat" for anybody.
July 4, 200719 yr If I live long enough to have grand-children I'll be able to them how papa lived through the 2 worst presidency in history with Carter and Dubya
July 4, 200719 yr    That went down the drain in the first hour or so of the administration. Yeah, faster than a trip to the dry-cleaners.
July 4, 200719 yr Scooter did have his day in court and he was convicted so I'm not comfortable with him not spending time in jail. I am sympathetic to the feelings that Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame could lie continuously with impunity while Scooter goes to jail for hiding the truth about a non-crime. However, as I said, he did get convicted of a felony so I would think at least a token amount of jail time was deserved. I agree. I don't think there was any question as to Libby's guilt in committing perjury. What did Baretta used to say about doing the crime?
July 4, 200719 yr To be clear, Libby did not out Plame. It was Armitage. Agreed. I think that seems very simple, however to hear Joe Wilson and the media keep blasting this, they still seem to blame Libby for outing Plame. Libby's crimes were perjury and obstruction of justice. He is still technically guilty of these crime pending the appeal. Bush commuted the jail sentence but did not pardon Libby. He might someday, but he hasn't yet...
July 6, 200719 yr Clinton, immediately upon taking office, fired all of the US Attorneys. The media said nothing. Bush fired eight US Attorneys and the press acted/acts like it has never happened before and must be something highly illegal , which it clearly is not. Clinton pardoned Rich, MacDougal, and many other rogues and political buddies. The media said little. Bush commutes the sentence (not a pardon) of Libby and the media will go wild. Get ready for the trashing. I commend Bush for having the backbone to do it. I only wish that this backbone would be more visable in battling the other party. Mark Rich's attorney maintained that he was innocent. Mr. Rich's attorney was of course.....Scooter Libby. Why lose any sleep over any of these criminals.
July 6, 200719 yr Mark Rich's attorney maintained that he was innocent. Mr. Rich's attorney was of course.....Scooter Libby. Why lose any sleep over any of these criminals. Big difference, Rich didn't wait for his day in court, he fled the country. That doesn't sound like someone who is innocent to me. Anyone who flees the country in an effort to prevent being prosecuted for a crime should not only not be pardoned, their citizenship should be revoked. And can you believe that Clinton had the "stones" to criticize President Bush for this. The man truly has no conscience or morals.
July 6, 200719 yr I guess my issue with these sorts of things stems from the fact that if this were an ordinary citizen, they'd spend at least some time in jail per the verdict. We all saw the outrage when Paris Hilton was let out of jail early (although within the normal guidelines of the system), yet no one seems fazed that Libby will be able to just pay up and move on with no loss of privileges. It's a crazy justice system....
