T doesn't get more acclaim in sports. X has a ton more state championships in sports than T.

In in the last decade X has more than doubled T in National Merits. Surely facing such overwhelming academic superiority, one would think T would be used to playing second fiddle by now.

First things first...this is about football...and maybe some other sports...though in the last decade we are really pulling ahead, specifically in revenue sports...next while you all have a lot more National Merit semi-Finalists....that doesn't paint the whole picture....are academic structure is awesome with the house system, and our ability to take in those that some other schools would consider challenged.....our academic structure is fabulous...without the amount of NMS' that you guys have.

I'm not sure of this year... I believe that I was one of 42 in my class.

I always find these jousts entertaining. They remind me so much of the U of L - U of K "discussions". When I went to X, I felt T was the "little brother" (apologies to Eddie Sutton). By the time my sons were ready for high school, little brother had grown up. My oldest chose the best school for HIM (which is what it's all about). He is now on scholarship at college. Number two son was also talented in the classroom, and also played football. He seems to have made the right decision too. Bottom line: to think your son will be smarter or more disciplined by going to one over the other is a falsehood. Both are great schools and they have each other to thank for making each other what they are. By the way congrats to the Rocks for making the list which is what this thread is about.

Upon further review, your call is correct!!!! I have no problem saying out loud and in a crowd that both are great schools. Not many on the other side will ever admit it.

"Great School". What makes a "Great School?". My kid goes to a "Great School". If my kids school was not "Great" he wouldn't go there. I can name some things about both X/?Rock school as I can of many puiblic school that wouldn't qualify as "Great".. Schools are fulled with people and people are prone to mistakes.

 

Tell me...what makes these two schools "Great". Teach me some things. I'm willing to learn.

Great schools have many qualities. I did not say X and T were the only great schools. I'm sure your school has some great attributes. If you want to know one that perhaps is unique to X and T, I would offer alumni support. The financial backing graduates give back to the school is "great". The attendance at an annual rivalry football game (30,000+), is "great".

When someone like me...who got kicked out of Trinity as a freshman...went to Ballard as a sophomore, came back to Trinity as a junior...did not play one play varsity....yet got a scholly after my senior year...and am NOW great friends with Coach Lampley...all the while meeting people all the time who know my name but not me....that little story, + countless others make Trinity great.

If only the X supporters could get the Rock supporters into a discussion of National Merit winners, or overall state titles in: Basketball, swimming, tennis,baseball, cross country, track, soccer,golf, wrestling or even the overall X v. T football series. No one doubts, though, that T is a football school, and if they do, T fans are quick to remind them. Now if only T would institute a nationwide search for a physics or math instructor, as they did for a football coach, they could be much more than just a football school relative to some other schools.

 

I know you're fueling the fire, but I do want to interject that Trinity's Mission is not to educate only the academically gifted, but those who struggle as well. Feel free to peruse the site and learn a little about the committement to excellence in educating those with learning differences, and the recognition, accolades that they've earned as well. There are several out of state schools who've come to Trinity to see first hand how their house system, as well as their programs for those with learning differences work. :thumb:
