I have given full credit a number of times to the fact that Trinity is a football school. Just look at Wikipedia. Notable alumni: Trinity-6 football, 1 baseball, 1 soccer. Notable alumni: X -27, including former congressmen, a leading scholar in Law and Economics, CEO's of some of the major corporations in the world, athletes, a former mayor, etc.

Sometimes I wonder why anyone would choose to go to Trinity over St. X. With all of the advantages X has in everything (but football titles), I'm befuddled why 350 to 400 kids each year make a huge mistake and go to Trinity. If only they had listened to the modest folks on Poplar Level, they wouldn't be making this huge mistake.

 

And as I pointed out in an earlier post, in the last 15 years Trinity has won six state titles in football, while St. X has only won five. (Thank goodness for Brohm, right?)

X has 10 all-time titles in track and four in the last 15.

T has 2 all-time titles in track and one in the last 15.

 

I could only find tennis since '00.

X has six of the last seven titles in tennis.

T has one of the last seven titles in tennis.

I'm not sure why he picked that as his cutoff, but I would imagine that the further back you go, the more discrepancy between the two schools you would find. T has really come on of late in most programs, whereas X is currently at the lowest they've been in 10 years.

Nothing nefarious, XgradROCKdad. Five years seemed too short a window, twenty five too long. Some T posters made a point of X being around much longer, so I selected a time when both schools were in their maturity. But I invite anyone to dissect the numbers over 5 or 10 or whatever increment of years. It would shed more light on the discussion. I only had time for one analysis.

When T supporters point out to the world over and over what a great football school T is, sometimes supporters of other schools Male and X in this thread) take the opportunity to point out areas of their superiority. You just have to put on your big boy britches and go on.

They do dominate KY... wish they would cross the river more often. The confines aren't as friendly over here

Trinity won the state track title in 05 and 06. Always happy to pick up after our brothers from Poplar Level Road.

In addtion, the 100 year (exageration, but close) age advantage X has has surely run the numbers up on Championships. I applaud the Swimming team for their complete domination of the aqua world.

 

So as far as real world real time I wouldn't say we are in the rear view mirror.

17, this year, you were 33% behind X. This was the worst year for NMSF X has had in recent memory. Overall, I'd say rear-view, but it will be interesting to see how X trends.

May 23, 2007. It was four to one this past year. As another example of X's academics, the X football team that lost to T in the state title game in 2005 had more National Merit scholars than the entire school of Trinity that year.

As to the 100 year advantage, that is why BuddyBW and I helpfully published stats for the last 15 years, so that canard can be laid to rest. Based on the above posts, with help from Trinity alum, it appears that over the last 15 years X has about 45 KHSAA titles, T about 17. So, really, even recently T has been far behind X in overall KHSAA titles. A closer contest may be X vs. Jefferson County. Maybe someone could run that stat. Any takers?

Buddy BW/Diogenes - My reply about the Trinity/X National Merit Scholar number this year was to respond to incorrect statements that X had so many more Scholars and was such a superior academic school.

 

Never Mind that this is a sports thread about the Trinity Athletic department.

 

There is NO QUESTION that St. X is a fantastic organization from top to bottom.

 

But please take notice - While St. X has been counting their scholars, Trinity has been counting students. With a Senior Class of 400 or so do you really measure the academics on National Merit Scholars only? What about the other 392 students?

 

Trinity is no longer the 2nd class school as many St. X alumni use to (still)believe. We are competing at every level.

 

Gone are the lime green cinder blocks. Trinity has a wonderful small college type campus built with money from a third of the Alumni St. X has.

 

We have students from varying backgrounds and continue to see test scores improve on a yearly basis. Every year Louisville Magazine does a bio on each High School. Every year Trinity has competed and sometimes beat St. X on the SAT average - ACT average, Student/Teacher Ratio, Computer/Student Ratio and other benchmarks. It really isn't important to me if we score below St. X within a few tenths of a point on any of these areas. It tells me we are competing.

 

But back to the thread - Athletics - Since I am academically challenged - Please tell me how many more Football championships has Trinity won? What is that %? :laugh:

T has a lot to be proud of, they have done a great job of transforming their campus recently. I'm not sure where you're getting your SAT/ACT info, but your own published information shows that you're about a full point, not "within a few tenths," shy of us on the ACT. You all have improved the scores a lot over the past 5-6 years though. And before you throw out the "everyone takes the ACT at Trinity" remark, 98% of X students go on to college, so almost every student at X is taking it too, not just the best and brightest. Additionally, we don't just count our scholars, we count the students who go out and start a tremendous program like St. Joseph of Arimathea Society or who win Foreign Language fairs or students who volunteer for program like K.I.D.S. Cerebral Palsy. Of course all of our kids count and each have unique talents.

 

17, your concern with only football championships just proves that T is a one trick pony. I will concede that you have more state titles in football (although we own the head to head) and XC, but when it comes to the overall sustained success of the athletic department, as gauged by titles (even over just the past 15 years, so our ~100 years aren't factored in) in all sports, we are clearly ahead.

 

Both schools have a bunch to be proud of and luckily they serve different crowds.
