Trinity Named SI Top High School Athletic Program in the State

Featured Replies

You are correct, billyrayjoebob. X overall has about three state titles for every one T has. Also, many years X has more National Merit students than all Catholic schools combined. Fortunately, not everyone measures a school by academics and overall sports. Just read the posts above. If they did, there really would be no comparison between X and T. It has been said before, and the point even made in this thread ( "and since football is king, and we are the kings of football...I imagine that we RULE") Trinity is a football school and nobody can deny it (although in head to head competition, X leads T in football).

As it is sometimes said, that is why they make chocolate and vanilla. Some are ecstatic being a football school. Others may prefer academics plus overall sports.:D

Believe me, our academics are fine....you guys are twice the age of us...we play second fiddle to no one.....and your head to head lead will be gone soon enough.

Now that my friends is called irony.

Sometimes it is a beautiful thing huh?

As sure as summer follows spring, whenever Trinity gets more acclaim than St. X in a sports discussion, the talk begins on how superior St. X is thought to be academically or otherwise.

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner. :dancingpa

I bet LSURock is laughing at that one from up above.

^ Without question.....he's probably currently driving some X bretherin crazy up there RIGHT NOW.

No one ever said Trinity's academics were not fine. Trinity has 17 state football titles, X has 11. Most T fans would say T is the clear superior to X in football (65% more titles). In in the last decade X has more than doubled T in National Merits. Surely facing such overwhelming academic superiority, one would think T would be used to playing second fiddle by now. Again, no one disputes T is a football school. However, academically and in all other sports, even in the past 10 years, X sees T in the rear view mirror.

In football, X + Male = Trinity

T + all the schools in Jefferson County in KHSAA sports = X

Diogenes, I believe Trinity had 6 National Merit Scholars this past year to St. X's 8. I know the average ACT score was minimally higher at St. X over Trinity, however Trinity requires all students to take the ACT including those with learning challenges. This would drive the average down.

X finished behind T this year in Govenor's cup competition and Trinity had the the Number 1 economics team in the state - However I am not sure they "made" as much money as the X kids?

In addtion, the 100 year (exageration, but close) age advantage X has has surely run the numbers up on Championships. I applaud the Swimming team for their complete domination of the aqua world.

So as far as real world real time I wouldn't say we are in the rear view mirror.

By the way doesn't Manual smoke everyone in National Merit Scholars?

Does anyone know how many scholars Manual had this year?

I'm not sure of this year... I believe that I was one of 42 in my class.

Let's talk about National Merit scholars. I have some knowledge of the topic. Every school can and should be proud of its Merit Scholars, but the fact is, most of these kids were well on their way to being Merit Scholars before they entered high school. First, the Merit Scholar test is taken a little over half way through high school (fall of Junior year). Second, the kids that score very well on the National Merit test are the same kids that scored very high on the entrance exams coming into high school. If a kid scores in the 99th percentile coming into high school and is still in the 99th percentile thirty months later, the school can be proud of their student, but please, don't take credit for it. Find me a kid that scored in the 50th percentile coming in and the 99th going out and I'll give the school and the kid a lot of credit. Trinity does a GREAT job with the high level kids and also does a great job with the kids with learning disabilities. When St X can make a similar claim I'll give them all the credit they are due. In the meantime, quit acting like the sun comes up because the roosters on Poplar Level Road crow.

I always find these jousts entertaining. They remind me so much of the U of L - U of K "discussions". When I went to X, I felt T was the "little brother" (apologies to Eddie Sutton). By the time my sons were ready for high school, little brother had grown up. My oldest chose the best school for HIM (which is what it's all about). He is now on scholarship at college. Number two son was also talented in the classroom, and also played football. He seems to have made the right decision too. Bottom line: to think your son will be smarter or more disciplined by going to one over the other is a falsehood. Both are great schools and they have each other to thank for making each other what they are. By the way congrats to the Rocks for making the list which is what this thread is about.

T doesn't get more acclaim in sports. X has a ton more state championships in sports than T.
